He needs to go with an attack dog for VP like Matt Gaetz or Thomas Massey. Someone that would carry the torch if they had to fill the presidency, and someone the uniparty would think is as bad as Trump.

Trump's VP pick will tell us a lot both about how much he's learned from his mistakes while in office, and how he intends to govern in his second term. Unfortunately, most of these picks do not inspire much confidence. Cotton, Rubio, Stefanik and Scott are all complete GOP hacks and Israel stooges. Trump would literally be setting himself up for impeachment and/or worse by picking any one of them. Ben Carson, Doug Burgum and J.D. Vance would be better MAGA picks, but all three are fairly untested, and both Burgum and Carson are of an age (67 and 72, respectively) where neither could be counted upon to carry the torch and act as Trump's heir-apparent to the MAGA movement in 2028. Vance is only 39 and has a lot of upside potential, but there are questions about how deeply held his MAGA/America First principles really are. But of the limited options presented in this shortlist, he would be my preferred pick.

I only ignored him because if you read the article you'll see that Trump has apparently already eliminated Vivek from consideration as VP, but has instead decided to give him a cabinet position (if that's true, they obviously talked and came to some agreement). But I would personally prefer Vivek as VP over any of the other listed candidates, as I think he has the most overall upside both ideologically and strategically. But Trump clearly has his own criteria for who he wants to pick.

I'd argue that, assuming there's no good proof of him being a trojan horse, he's a strong pick because it's an insurance policy. If the #2 coming up is the guy who has been most vocal about dismantling the security state and demonstrates a strong understanding of how the opposition work (IMHO he's the only candidate that showed he understands socialist dogma), then killing off or imprisoning Trump means you've just massively empowered another threat.
What Biden did with Kamala can also work for Trump, but the criteria are the polar opposite of those required for the Biden-Kamala situation.
