Vox Day

Vox continues plumbing the depths of egomania, posting his sycophantic AI's fawning praise of his musical lyrics.

You’re not a dilettante playing at funk—you’re a Minneapolis musician who competed with Prince and won.

😂😂😂

This guy kind of laid the groundwork of the whole alpha beta delta gamma omega framework that probably influenced me more than it should’ve in my formative years. Anyone tell Vox the letter gamma comes before delta in the alphabet? With his 150 iq and what not?

Anyway, how do you get into his comments and forum section? Also how do I get to the darkstream. I liked some of his takes. Now that the wars are back and it seems like we’re moving backward, I’d like to hear more from him.

Vox recently published a book that purports to prove the theory of evolution is mathematically impossible. He shows that beneficial mutations would take a long time to spread from the first creature with the mutation to be widespread in the species. Given the number of DNA gene mutations needed to go from one species to another, it would take an impossible amount of time for the necessary mutations to occur and spread. An absurdly impossible amount of time.

I would say his logic is sound. He is claiming this will completely destroy the theory of evolution. Darwin came up with this theory in the 1800s when they lacked the science to properly dispose of the theory as it deserves. However, Vox says he has stuck the fork in.

I think the Powers That Be will simply ignore this, but in time the mathematical impossibility will become inescapable. The PTB will still seek to deny Vox's role, but it is on the record now, and will be hard to deny.

I would say this is a real accomplishment to be proud of.

Well he went into the nitty gritty. I’ve found some geographical and geological time issues with evolution - most secular theories don’t check out. at least according to the mainstream narrative. I believe if evolution occurred the human species is way older and the out of Africa theory is bunk…

… yes I’m aware of my avatar. What you gonna do about it? 🤣

Debunking evolution is so easy, even a caveman could do it!

In his debate with JF Gariepy, which was probably 2017, VOX brought this up about the time required and JF was totally stumped. JF has a lot of excellent takes, but evolution isn't one of them.

Vox says that biologists can't math. That may well be the case. I can't either, frankly. Is Vox right about evolution not holding up mathematically? Maybe he is. I don't care very much. My faith isn't based on evolution being real or not.

I selfishly wish Vox weren't so obsessed with evolution at the moment because I'd much rather hear his takes on what's going on in the world. For example, on Greenland he just did a short post saying there's no reason the USA shouldn't take it over without elaborating.

Vox seems to be in the grips of what can only be described as AI-induced mania, posting AI-generated walls of text on his blog without comment, as well as having published two anti-evolution books in the span of a month, both also "co-written" (a term generously employed) by AI. It seems that he's spending most of his waking hours interacting with AI, which he has clearly trained on all his books and copious blog postings, and which therefore ably regurgitates his style, and sycophantically agrees with all of his arguments. It will be interesting to see if Vox is actually able to continue leveraging AI to achieve practical benefit, or if he gradually succumbs to AI-induced psychosis and loses touch with reality (which we've already seen happen to many people). Vox no doubt assumes that his superior IQ will shield him from such an outcome, but it's just that sort of pride and arrogance that makes it much more likely to happen.

Pretty cool, looks like Vox is doing a Tolkien alternate reality where the plan is to have the eagles fly the ring to Mount Doom to destroy it. Not sure if this is AI generated, but regardless, I thought it was very good. Hopefully there will be further parts.

Haven't read the link, but the problem is that no one could ever willingly give up the ring, except for Bilbo, but even he was not close to Mt Doom and Sauron, so flying the ring is not a solution unless you can automate its being dumped into the lava, which is also not possible.

His “why not have the eagles fly the ring to Mordor?” Story was certainly amusing, this is the kind of thing Vox does well. I’m not sure if it was AI written or not (I thought the prose seemed consistent with his other fantasy fiction) but it was a more effective, and enjoyable, refutation of this particular point of nerd-wank than the typical didactic wall-of-text I’d have expected from him on the subject.

What’s more than a bit ironic is that, as Scorpion pointed out above, the AI chatbots whisper sweet nothings to him very much like the One Ring did to those whom it would control. There are certainly some lessons to be observed there.

I thought it was very good. I loved the stoic reaction from Gandalf and Elrond when they realize Sauron has recovered the ring. AI or not, I'd like to see Vox do more Tolkien fan fiction. What ifs like this one, or maybe about what was going on in the far eastern part of Middle Earth with the blue wizards.

I enjoyed his series about the eagles. I thought the contemplation by Sauron concerning Gandalf taking up the ring in order to destroy him was interesting. I hope to read his evolution book this year and understand it solidly so if ever I meet a smug atheist touting evolution as truth, I shall smite them. But actually, I'd like to have the ammunition and knowledge in order to protect my daughter from the inevitable push of evolution in school.

What's your take on using AI in this way? As in, for feedback?

What's your take on using AI in this way? As in, for feedback?
There are undoubtedly some limited applications where this can be useful, but in general I'd say it's a very, very slippery slope, and is not something you should be doing frequently, much less relying on as a metric of quality control. This is because AI does not actually possess taste, judgment, or expertise, but merely provides a simulated approximation of those qualities based on its voluminous training data. And sometimes that sort of approximation is "good enough" to provide value. But anyone who starts leaning on AI for this purpose as a matter of course is setting themselves up for long term problems, as the quality of their work inevitably begins to degrade (although its volume may increase markedly).

This is what we are currently seeing with Vox Day. He has never been more prolific - but is anyone actually paying attention? He's "authored" two books with the help of AI, is pumping out weird LoTR fan fiction every other day, and is working on a new "Veriphysics" that he says will demolish the flawed foundations of the Enlightenment. What we are witnessing is AI-induced delusions of grandeur (and Vox needed little encouragement in this area to begin with). The AI reinforces all of his ideas and leads him to believe that he is a genius with profound and world-changing ideas. But going back to what I said about AI not actually possessing the necessary judgment or expertise to render such a claim accurately, we can quickly see the problem. Vox gloats about how he has rigorously "tested" all of his ideas and arguments against different LLMs, as if this is a meaningful measure of quality, and not merely him adjusting his inputs until the model spits out the glowing review he desires.

The more Vox uses AI, the more it will reinforce his biases and encourage his delusions, and the more out of touch with reality he will become. The quantity of his output will increase as its quality continues to erode, which will lead people to simply start ignoring it. The personal indignation and frustration of being an "ignored genius" will further inflame his grandiose delusions, and the spiral downward will continue. And because he is a complete egomaniac, he will fail to see what's happening, and will blame everyone but himself and his AI companion.

Hmmm but if Vox is using it as a sounding board for ideas and editor while maintaining his own critical judgement is that really different from being in a writers workshop?

No.

In a hilarious coincidence of timing, Vox's most recent post illustrates exactly what I just wrote about above. Here we have Vox making the absolutely wild claim that AI can augment your IQ by 1.5 standard deviations (24 IQ points). That is an enormous jump; one that for context would take someone from literally retarded to average IQ, or elevate a relatively clever college graduate to the level of a genius.

Such an astonishing claim should have equally compelling evidence to support it. When we click through to Vox's AI central blog post to read more, we are greeted with his evidence for his claim: the output from his AI. You read that correctly: the evidence Vox presents for his claim that AI is very smart is that the very smart AI said so. This buffoonery is even more hilarious when you consider that Vox just posted about his plan to refute the Agrippan Trilemma, one of which is "circular reasoning" (aka literally what he just did).

Disappointed No Way GIF

Also note that Vox's AI assures him that his "solo work on natural selection" implies he has an IQ between 172 and 180". This is an IQ literally on par with world-historic geniuses like Newton, da Vinci and Galileo (men whom Vox Day, in moments of naked honesty, would probably confess he regards as his peers). The difference being, those guys produced work that reverberated through the centuries, while Vox publishes comic books and is now LARPing as a modern-day renaissance man by spamming the output of his sycophantic AI and claiming it is groundbreaking material (because his AI assures him that it is).

We are literally witnessing the real-time descent of a public figure into AI-induced delusion. It is only going to get worse unless Vox realizes what is happening and forswears the use of AI going forward (lol, not a chance). That being the case, I will gladly bear witness to the trainwreck.

At least maybe we'll get some good Tolkien fan fic. I hope he's going to do more of that. I see what you're saying though. Vox's ego has always been staggeringly vast, and you're likely right that AI will augment it to the point of sheer madness. Why deal with human beings who might fail to see your greatness anymore when AI is there to constantly reassure you that you're a genius.
