There are undoubtedly some limited applications where this can be useful, but in general I'd say it's a
very, very slippery slope, and is not something you should be doing frequently, much less relying on as a metric of quality control. This is because AI does not a
ctually possess taste, judgment, or expertise, but merely provides a simulated approximation of those qualities based on its voluminous training data. And sometimes that sort of approximation is "good enough" to provide value. But anyone who starts leaning on AI for this purpose as a matter of course is setting themselves up for long term problems, as the
quality of their work inevitably begins to degrade (although its
volume may increase markedly).
This is what we are currently seeing with Vox Day. He has never been more prolific - but is anyone actually paying attention? He's "authored" two books with the help of AI, is pumping out weird LoTR fan fiction every other day, and is working on a new "Veriphysics" that he says will demolish the flawed foundations of the Enlightenment. What we are witnessing is AI-induced delusions of grandeur (and Vox needed little encouragement in this area to begin with). The AI reinforces all of his ideas and leads him to believe that he is a genius with profound and world-changing ideas. But going back to what I said about AI not actually possessing the necessary judgment or expertise to render such a claim accurately, we can quickly see the problem. Vox gloats about how he has rigorously "tested" all of his ideas and arguments against different LLMs, as if this is a meaningful measure of quality, and not merely him adjusting his inputs until the model spits out the glowing review he desires.
The more Vox uses AI, the more it will reinforce his biases and encourage his delusions, and the more out of touch with reality he will become. The quantity of his output will increase as its quality continues to erode, which will lead people to simply start ignoring it. The personal indignation and frustration of being an "ignored genius" will further inflame his grandiose delusions, and the spiral downward will continue. And because he is a complete egomaniac, he will fail to see what's happening, and will blame everyone but himself and his AI companion.
