Furthermore, Venezuela holds the largest proven oil reserves in the world. Under sanctions, that oil couldn’t be sold on the open market—so China bought it at steep discounts, often paid in yuan or barter, not petrodollars.
Cheap, embargoed oil helped prop up Xi Jinping’s domestic and global agenda. Now that pipeline just collapsed.

I don’t understand this, there is no way China is consuming enough food for 1.4 billion people, or maybe she means that China has under 500 million people, and is fudging the food and other resource numbers?
I posted this and saw you beat me too it.
As I read it, she is saying that there is no way 1.4 (or 1.2) billion people are in the country and most of their figures are lies.
This makes sense having done business in China and knowing how Chinese bureaucracy works.
There are NOT up to 8 billion living people in this world.

Census data has been SEVERELY embellished outside the West to claim more resources, peacock, and make their people feel small and inconsequential.
CHINA:
- 100's of unexplained ghost towns
- Phone companies reported over 100M+ are no longer in service or not used at all w/o explanation.
- Claimed 500M in 1950s, then somehow "boomed" after the CCP to 1.2B by 2000 which would require every woman to have 5 surviving babies on average.
- Except there was a strict 1 child policy for almost 4 decades, which only became the 2 child policy in 2015.
- and a FAMINE.
- Stopped reporting covid deaths out of shame, then secretly built mass funeral cemeteries at an alarming rate.
INDIA:
- Most recent official census data for India shows population in tier 1 and 2 cities to be 300 Million maximum.
- If this is true, almost 900 million people live in rural Indian villages. (lol?) Does this sound correct at all? Can it be said confidently by someone with sense?

By the way, Israel lies about everything as well, they always have news report about a certain number of deaths that day in Gaza, or the West Bank, and there’s no real way to verify any of the numbers.
And you know the United States lies about numbers as well, like with all the Somali fraud for example.

Wouldn’t it be really easy to verify that they have enough food for 1.4 billion people? Are they intentionally throwing out a lot of food?

If they show their population decline then their population may not like that. The CCP isn't with out it's own internal politics and requirements to keep its people supportive of their regime.
OK after a little googling, I think I understand a little better. Each of the geographic areas in China gets money from the central government based off of population..

It's kind of like that situation where every region knows every other region is lying and no one wants to call anyone out. Because if they fall you fall.
^This is pretty dumb, approaching the "birds are not real" meme. You can't fudge a most basic stat of population size by over 250%. They could get away with 5%-10% at the most, and even that is doubtful. For one, if their population was as low as half a billion, they would not have had their one child policy.

It's not been my experience in dealing with the Chinese, which I have done in business, that they are a high trust society. Especially when there is incentive to bump these numbers up (just like California wanting to include illegals in the census for congressional apportionment)
I don't know that their population is .5b vs the 1.2 or 1.4 or 1.6 billion but I know not to trust the numbers that the politburo reports.
Mathematically the went from 550 million in 1950 to 1.2b in 2000 you'd need each woman to produce 5.7 kids. We know that didn't happen with the one child policy.
My grad school director talked about living on the top story of an empty skyrise in China. I tend to believe the china demographic skepticism is merited.

That time period spans over two generations. Chinese farmers married young. For the population to just over double in 50 years, their women in the 1950s needed to have 5,7 children and grandchildren, a fairly modest proposition.
They have had effectively 50 years of the 1 child policy. 1979 to 2015.

Have you ever interacted with the Chinese in business? Are you suggesting that they don't keep 2 sets of books?
Why do you trust CCP data whole cloth and don't apply the same skepticism we do to anything the US says?
Because I moved to Hong Kong and have been in and out of China for the past decade. So I've interacted with them plenty, recently and not a decade+ ago like a good amount of the posters here that base their stories.

The fertility rate in China before 1980 was over 5.0, that alone could account for their population almost doubling between 1950 and 1980.
Your guy here, Yi Fuxian, does seem like a serious researcher. His estimate of the Chinese population today is 1.28 billion, which is a reasonable number, about 9% higher than official estimates. On the other hand, the statement by that Falun Gong lady above of China's population being around 500 million is complete bunk.

My good friend (1/2 Taiwanese) actually pulled his manufacturing and facilities out of China after growing issues between his plant and the government. Rampant corruption/poor quality etc
When I was a supply chain manager ordering manufactured equipment from Chinese suppliers we were often ripped off with bunk products, or maybe 1 in 3 batches of material was actually reflecting the details required in the specs.
Knowing that a company we have set up over there had 2 sets of books (1 for us and 1 for them) also led to tons of audit questions and issues as an American company (all be it private) trying to follow da accounting rules the company was under...
I don't think 250 percent and I'm not buying the 500 million number. My point was simply that I don't believe the CCP data and I know they aren't transparent.
