Major League Baseball announced today that it will remove Pete Rose and 16 other deceased individuals - i.e. Shoeless Joe Jackson - from the professional baseball's permanently ineligible list.

MLB is now in full swing with bettors. Gambling (and profits) is more important to the league than game integrity.

But we knew that from the 90s steroid scandal, right Commish Selig?

They banned them until their death so I think that's a bit of stretch.

In regards to steroids, if athletes want to destroy their bodies to better entertain me then by all means go for it. I never understood why people get so worked up over it.

Well no, they were permanently banned, this new ruling changed that.

It has to with cheating and the integrity of the game. Cheating and profits were/are more important, so be it. It's entertainment not sport - more akin to WWE.

But I agree, if athletes want to kill themselves for my entertainment by using steroids or smashing their bodies against each other or smashing their head into someone else, do it!

Though ironically I don't watch anymore and haven't for a while :D

Yea I know but I think they were punished pretty severely, saying to someone "you'll be let back in when you're dead" is pretty deep......hell haha these guys didn't even know that much!

I've said this a lot on here, I like sports, I like competition, I was a college athlete.......but to be a grown man cheering and putting emotions into other grown men playing a game has to be one of the gheyest things I can imagine. It's just entertainment and absolutely nothing more, but even as entertainment much of it is nauseating. I do like baseball though, more than other sports at least, it's still more a game that requires some craft and intelligence rather than just who is the biggest neanderthal wins.

Baseball is my favorite too. It's getting to point where it pretty much is whoever is the biggest wins at just about every position.

You don't see as many Morandini's or Larry Bowa's or little guys who can steal bases.

And the game suffers. Most at bats are K, W or HR. There's less action now - turning double into triples, base stealing, throwing out runners trying to stretch out a base....

Steroids (with the addition of New Stats Inc.) helped push into that. It's a shame.

I still play and am a pretty good 5 tool player - though I used to more of the scrappy fast line drive defensive guy. I've bulked up a bit recently (non-steroids) so I guess I'm the problem too :D

Yea that's analytics which seems to have ruined all sports but especially the NBA, totally unwatchable now. At least baseball got rid of the shift, they are trying. Every team in the NBA plays exactly the same it's a 3 point shooting contest with fouls and turnovers, no flow no creativity, nothing contested, no passion everyone is best friends....it's become such a horrid product. The nba doesn't even market the game anymore they market the drama around it....even they know their product is junk.
