Situation in the Red Sea (Houthi Thread)

Groton - a Liberia-flagged, Greek owned and French (CMA CGM) operated container ship was hit by a missile in the Gulf of Aden.
The projectiles hit a cargo hold, and the crew were safe and unharmed in the deckhouse. As of Saturday, the vessel had no water ingress, no fuel spillage and no onboard fire, the operator informed UK Maritime Trade Operations

1. Delta Blue - a Liberia-flagged, Greek owned and operated tanker was approached by two small boats in the Bab el-Mandeb, and attacked with an RPG. Could have been a hijacking attempt.
the ship was attacked by two small boats, white and black in color and each manned by four people. The assailants were wearing white and yellow raincoats. When they approached, they fired a single RPG, which exploded near the vessel. The crew and the ship were unharmed and are under way to their next destination.

2. Contship Ono - a Liberia-flagged, Greek owned and operated container ship, was allegedly attacked with missiles and drones in the Red Sea. However the ship management company denied the attack has ever happened.
Reuters reports it received a statement from the Athens-based Contships Management saying, “The vessel and its crew are safe and there has been no incident affecting its operations."

3. Houthis claim they attacked two american destroyers, USS Labon and USS Cole, in the Red Sea. CENTCOM reports successful interception of Houthi's missiles and drones.
In the past 24 hours, U.S. Central Command forces successfully destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicles, one Houthi ground control station, and three Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. These weapons presented a clear and imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region

Delta Blue was attacked 3 more times while sailing into the Red Sea.

"The intensity of this prolonged attack would indicate the vessel is likely to have an affiliation to Israel whether by ownership or recent trading activity,” speculates maritime security group Neptune P2P.
The first attack came yesterday with two small boats each carrying four people chasing the tanker while it was approximately 45 nautical miles south of Mukha, Yemen near the Bar al-Mandeb strait. That was the RPG attack with the master reporting an explosion nearby. The ship is laden and sailing from Iraq presumably to Europe.
The vessel was displaying on its AIS signal that it has armed guards aboard. It is unclear if the guards responded to this first attack. Eight hours later, Thursday night, the master reported a missile explosion also near the vessel.
Five hours after the second attack, the vessel reported an uncrewed surface vessel was approaching. This time the security guards fired at and successfully detonated the explosive drone boat before it could reach the tanker. About two hours later also on Friday morning a missile splashed in the sea near the tanker.
Neptune P2P notes that the incident demonstrates the value of having armed guards embarked to mitigate against some of the threats. This is not the first instance where the guards were able to explode a bomb boat before it came close enough to cause serious damage.

Sounion - a Greek-flagged, owned and operated tanker, was attacked several times in the Red Sea. Looks like it started with a hijacking attempt, but after a firefight with the security team, Houthis pulled back and called drone/missile strikes on the vessel. The ship lost its power and had to be abandoned by the crew. Now she's adrift and there's risk that Houthis might finish her off.

The ship was northbound in the Red Sea this morning on its way to Cyprus when it was approached by two small boats. One had three to five people and the other at least 10 people. Reports were that the vessel was hailed by the Houthis and that there was an exchange of small arms fire but that the small boats withdrew to a distance of about two nautical miles.
The tanker, which was approximately 77 nautical miles west of Hodeidah, Yemen, reported two hours later that it had been hit by two “projectiles.” It was unclear if the attack came from drones or missiles. Delta Tankers confirmed the vessel had sustained minor damage saying there were no injuries to the 25 crewmembers aboard. They crew was said to be assessing the situation and that the vessel would be able to continue under its own power.
Less than an hour later the vessel was struck again. This time the master reported the vessel had a fire onboard and had lost engine power. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations the vessel is “drifting and not under command.”
There are reports of smoke coming from the engine room of the vessel according to an update from maritime security consultants Vanguard. They are also reporting one minor injury to a crewmember. At this time, it is unclear how significant the damage is to the vessel. UKMTO reports the authorities are investigating. The vessel said that there were still small boats in the area acting “suspiciously.”

Apparently, Houthis tried to finish off the "Sounion" tanker with an unmanned boat but were thwarted by the French navy.
According to the French command, its vessel was approaching the drifting tanker Sounion (163,759 dwt) in a Red Sea position north of Hodeidah when it detected a new attack underway. An unmanned drone boat heavily loaded with explosives was intercepted and “neutralized,” by the French Navy.

In another incident, Houthis pursued the "SW North Wind I" - a Malta-flagged, Greek owned and operated bulk carrier, previously owned by an American company - for the past two days, launching several unsuccessful attacks against her.
Demonstrating an apparent change in strategy the Houthis yesterday, August 21, and again today, August 22, chased a single bulker for hours launching multiple, unsuccessful, attacks against the vessel. Today, the group acknowledged the attacks accusing the vessel which was sold just months ago of violating the militants' bans on association with Israel and calling in Israeli ports.
In the earlier phases of their campaign, the Houthis generally unleashed an attack against a vessel and then moved on to their next target. More recently, they have gone after the same vessel multiple times with a variety of different methods.

They sure are persistent.
The hull looks intact after the explosion, so it seems they boarded the vessel and planted explosives on the deck. The longer she burns, the better - fire will consume the oil and limit the spil.
If, or rather when she sinks, she will be the 3rd ship they've sunk. First was the "Rubymar" back in March, second was the "Tutor" in June.

A group of 70 commandos, mostly Israelis, with some US/UK mercs, completely eliminated in a failed mission in Yemen. Macgregor mentions Russian ISR having informed the Yemenis as the reason for that mission's failure.

This is goyslop tier propaganda.

This 'incident' supposedly happened on August 9 yet there hasn't been a single Ansarallah media outlet mentioning it, nor have any pictures and/or videos emerged of the supposed slain mercenaries and their equipment, uniforms etc.

If this were to be true you would see the bodies paraded through Sana'a night and day and non stop videos of the captured equipment on Ansarallah media coupled with jubilant Yemenis. But none of that happened, because this entire 'incident' didn't happen.

Ironically this total fabrication is a inversion of the Russian defeat near Tin Zaoutan, Mali - which most definitely did happen. Here over 100 Wagner mercenaries were either killed or captured leaving yet another dent in the already deflated global image of the Russian Armed Forces and its auxiliaries.

Story is quite literally a one on one blueprint copy. Wagner mercenaries drove into the desert lacking air support and not securing their rear/logistics, ignored early intel on large concentration of enemy forces entrenched in and around the town, subsequently drove into a rocky/cavey area which had been prepped as a IED riddled killing field, got ambushed and destroyed, and the survivors were killed off due to their inability to flee because of an abrupt sandstorm in the area.

Some low brow shills even tried to spin footage from Mali as 'proof'.

Good catch. Was watching for the footage if the alleged raid was real and then saw the same shots from Mali... Lots of propaganda on all sides these days

"Sounion" is still on fire.

Update on M/V SOUNION:
The MV SOUNION has been on fire since August 23rd. An EUNAFOR ASPIDES unit transiting the area reported that there are fires on at least 5 locations observed on the main deck of the vessel. It is estimated that these are located around the hatches of the vessel’s oil tanks. Additionally, part of the superstructure is on fire, too.
So far there are no obvious signs of an oil spill.
The ship remains anchored at the same point in international waters.
All vessels in the area must exercise extreme caution, as the MV SOUNION is both a navigational and an imminent environmental hazard. This situation underlines that these kinds of attacks pose not only a threat against the freedom of navigation but also to the lives of seafarers, the environment, and subsequently the life of all citizens living in that region.

Interview with the USS Eisenhower CSG commander during her tour through the Red Sea, USN Rear Admiral Mark Miguez:

TL;DR - Ike 1) fired a lot of ordnance (emptying all the destroyers' surface to air systems), 2) had heavy contact from air, sea, and underwater drones, 3) stayed in a constant state of mobility/vigilance to make enemy work hard and 4) engaged multiple US weapons systems for first time ever in combat ops. Miguez reports that a proper response was beyond his authority at the time and will require higher pay grades to engage all forms of the "DIMA" - diplomatic, intelligence, military, and economic - spectrum to properly address the Houthi/Iran threat.

Some mil-speak but it is understandable.

Since the Eisenhower's departure from the Red Sea, both the USS Theodore Roosevelt CSG and the USS Abraham Lincoln CSG have transferred to Centcom command. Neither has attempted Gulf of Aden/Red Sea passage to date. Both are presently at Gulf of Oman, outside the Persian Gulf.

The fact they can do this with 40% of our Navy in the area is really amazing.

This is a second boarding - you can see the fires caused by the first set of explosions still going on. Looks like the second round of explosions set more oil tanks on fire and damaged the bridge house, but she's still on an even keel (no flooding) so she's salvageable. And, supposedly, Houthis are willing to permit a salvage operation.

"Groton" was once again attacked in the Gulf of Aden.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said in an advisory note that two missiles exploded on Friday in close proximity to the vessel, 130 nautical miles east of Yemen’s Aden. It said the crew was safe. There was no mention of damage to the vessel.

New photos of the "Sounion" were published:

Salvage operation will soon begin, with the EU warships providing protection.
Aspides confirmed today, September 2, the reports that a private salvage operation is “about to start.” Most details are being kept confidential due to security concerns, but Aspides said it has been asked to provide security for the tugs heading to the tanker. Previously, the U.S. Pentagon said it was aware of threats against the tugs hired for an earlier salvage effort, but late last week the Houthis said they would not interfere with the current effort.
Officials in Greece are saying today that three warships, including frigates and destroyers from Greece, France, and Italy assigned to Aspides are now being positioned near the Sounion. They will defend the tugs as they begin the salvage operation. Speculation has said an ordinance team will also need to sweep the tanker to look for any additional explosives from the Houthi which set off charges on the vessel more than a week ago.
