Situation in the Red Sea (Houthi Thread)

Meanwhile, two more tankers were attacked in the Red Sea, but without serious consequences.

Full text:
On the morning of Sep. 2, the Iranian-backed Houthis attacked two crude oil tankers, the Panama flagged/owned, Greek operated MV BLUE LAGOON I and the Saudi flagged, owned, and operated MV AMJAD, with two ballistic missiles and a one-way attack uncrewed aerial system, hitting both vessels. Both vessels are laden with crude oil. The MV AMJAD is carrying approximately two million barrels of oil, almost twice the amount onboard the Greek-owned MV DELTA SOUNION, which the Houthis attacked on Aug. 21. Currently, salvage efforts are underway in the Southern Red Sea for the disabled MV DELTA SOUNION, which is still on fire and threatens the possibility of a major environmental disaster.
These reckless acts of terrorism by the Houthis continue to destabilize regional and global commerce, as well as put the lives of civilian mariners and maritime ecosystems at risk.. U.S. Central Command will continue to work with international partners and allies to protect commerce and mitigate potential impacts to the environment despite the irresponsible and careless actions of the Iranian-backed Houthis

The "Sounion" salvage operation had to be cancelled. Under current conditions (ongoing fires, sustained damage) salvors are unable to tow her to a safe port.

Full text:
Since September 1st, 2024, EUNAVFOR ASPIDES assets have been engaged in protecting the tugs involved in the MV SOUNION salvage operation, aiming to facilitate the prevention of an unprecedented environmental disaster in the region.
The private companies responsible for the salvage operation have concluded that the conditions were not met to conduct the towing operation and that it was not safe to proceed. Alternative solutions are now being explored by the private companies.
EUNAVFOR ASPIDES remains concentrated on its original mandate, acting as a credible EU maritime security provider, aiming to contribute to the freedom of navigation of merchant vessels in its Area of Operation.

I suspect they'll have to call in a second tanker and try to pump all the remaining oil from the "Sounion".

@TruckDriver9, I wonder if it has to do with this:

I wouldn't necessary connect them. Information warfare is just another tool in the box, radio games like this will create confusion - now whenever a western warship, or a maritime institution, calls on a vessel to alter it's course, the crew won't know if it's legit or not. This will have an impact on the ongoing convoy operations - most likely will cause delays in organizing convoys, since merchant crews will have to double check the authenticity of all calls. But it won't affect the warships directly - not unless Houthis can crack our comms.

Reportedly, the USS Lincoln entered the eastern edge of the Gulf of Aden today.

USNI fleet tracker has the Roosevelt CSG in the Gulf of Oman, and Lincoln CSG in the Gulf of Aden.
Plus two destroyers - USS Stockdale and USS Michael Murphy (both from the Pacific Fleet) in the Red Sea

Roosevelt CSG left the Middle East and is sailing back home.
Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) has left the Middle East eight months into its deployment, Pentagon officials announced on Thursday.
A U.S. official confirmed to USNI News the transit to the Pacific occurred late Wednesday.
The San Diego, Calif., based carrier has been operating in U.S. Central Command since July as part of the Navy’s presence mission in the Middle East to protect merchant shipping from attack from the Houthis.
“Following a period of dual carrier coverage by the Theodore Roosevelt, CSG and the Abraham Lincoln, CSG in the CENTCOM region, Theodore Roosevelt has departed and begun its transit into the Indo-Pacific command area of operations,” Maj Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters Thursday.
San Diego, Calif.-based USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) has been in 5th Fleet since late August after deploying from California in mid-July.

Even the Houthis have hypersonic missiles now. Must be coming from Iran, via Russia.
Even the USA doesn't have them, or any way to shoot them down.
Now, if the Arabic-speaking nations around Israel (or Iran) get Russia's Poseidon underwater drone...that would be a game-changer. Slam a few of those into Israel's coast, and "from the river to the sea" will become a reality in the form of tsunamis.

Looks like it was Iranian made. The end result of Diversity is your technology falls behind, in what is the ultimate competition, the technology battle, because you turned your once super power into a Make-A-Wish foundation.

As kids, we all had calendars where we would "x" off every single day in counting down to summer. I wonder if China doesn't have a gigantic calendar where they "x" off the days until they can take out the USA with drones and watch on their TV's at the carnage of the idiots who thought "eVeRy BodY EqUal".

Salvage of the "Sounion" is underway.

At first they will tow her to the Saudi coast, where hidden from the Houthis they will attempt to put down the fires, and pump the remaining oil into a second tanker.

For placeholder: No US carrier has been present in the Red Sea since Ike's departure under fire. Two carriers (Roosevelt and Lincoln) have approached from the east, but not attempted Red Sea entry. The Roosevelt has departed for home, leaving it doubtful that the Lincoln will attempt passage with less regional backup (time will tell). The Houthi's just sent a (hypersonic?) missile into Israel proper, passing through both US and Israeli air defense networks, traveling the length of the Red Sea (demonstrating full range into where Ike had gone at the end of her tour to be "safe" at that time). The total Red Sea, plus Gulf of Aden, plus anything within 2000 km of Yemen, is subject to such attack.

This was a brushback pitch to all Prosperity Guardian countries/ships as much as it was a so-so attack on an Israeli refinery.

Still, Iran has not yet mounted a retaliatory attack on Israel. Maybe they are losing face in the arab/muslim world, but if they are the missile producer for this Yemen attack, they have flexed a different muscle (and at lower risk to their own force). Savvy, proxy war stuff there, eh? Sounds familiar. Bibi just lost a carrier strike group for a while also, advantage Iran. Iran showing more discipline than I thought possible, and it might work.

I have a feeling that Russia has helped guide Iran's response to Israel. In exchange for buying weapons from Iran, and Iran doing as Russia has likely suggested, Iran in return has probably gotten some nice gifts. Rumors of air defense systems or nuclear technology/information have been swirling the internet. No way of knowing. But the fact Iran has not responded directly tells me something bigger for them has come about and the fact Russia was in Iran just a day or two afterwards seems to be the cause for it.

If Iran is able to take Russia's help and really advance their military technology, then they really can play the long game. Keep supplying the proxies, keep denying involvement, keep attacking the satanic west with a death by a thousand cuts. Either you eventually beat them this way or they get froggy and come after you and that is when you can release this new great technology.
