Forum Software Issues and Suggestions

The down time was caused by us not having access to reset the server, so we wouldn't have been able to put up a maintenance notice, unless we changed the domain's DNS. We now have access to reset the server. But may move to somewhere else if it turns out the current host is unreliable.

We can use this plugin, if we have any such updates.

A small detail, but I miss the page switch button at the top which we had on RvF. Could that be added back?

Thanks, if it gets embeds working here, then I will look at installing this on a different browser, like Firefox. The reason being that I don't want to lose the YouTube front-end on Brave, I like the recommendations on the home page and use it more than anything else.
Did you get anywhere with this?

I am reluctant to post videos anymore as nothing seems to embed. It seems to be hit and miss, some videos on the forum are embedded, others not.

'Brave' seems to work best for this forum software but that suggestion was to use a plugin which seems to be for firefox.

@Cynllo Can we re-arrange some of these forums/sub-forums?

I motion to promote all of the sub-forums in Culture and Entertainment to forums so they are not buried under the Entertainment banner.

Other forums like Prepping and Family Life should be sub-forums under Living. And for the women's forum, Cosmetics and Scents should also be sub-forums since no one is posting in there.

Is this because they can't be seen on mobile?

I don't access the site via my phone so I'm not sure. I've just noticed that discussion in the Film thread has gone way down since RVF and I'm guessing it's because that forum is now a sub-forum.

In general, I don't think sub-forums are a good idea. And if you can't see them on mobile, then we'd really want to limit their use on here.

People can chime in here. Like the lucid Thomas More, I pretty much only find threads via what's new. I think more sub-forums are useful, because there are cases on RVF when people said they were digging through forums to find a certain thread they could not find via search.

As it is setup now, I think it's a bit easier to try and find threads if you want to find one. Memes - just go to humor. Films Thread - Films and TV. This will also make it easier for people to read on a certain topic. It's probably going to stop threads falling through the cracks.

On mobile, you can't see the subs on the main page. Unless you tip your pone on its side. That can probably be changed somewhere. It means there is one more step to get into that sub-forum.

To add to this, there is a XenForo addon, which will show all sub-forum threads in the parent forum. I was going to install this, but was told not to. But it makes sense to me, to have the forum with more subs, and then you can view all sub-forum threads in the parent forum.

I think some of the threads are in the wrong forums, which makes finding them increasingly hard. Since I don't think most thread creators care where the threads reside, I believe it should be the mods' prerogative to move the threads to the best logical locations, without warning. Ultimately, the key point is to be able to find the threads with the most ease.

Which threads?

Could you describe it?
Sorry for the late response, but the page switch menu (as seen below), is not visible at the top of the page on mobile

Instead I have this menu:

To be fair, its a neat feature as well, but I also miss the page switch. Its just a minor QoL thing, but is it possible to have them both? It's just a thing I have on the mobile browser btw.

It's there for me. Same as RVF.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before:

I'm an Inquirer, but I'd like to be able to react-to/like posts in the full Orthodox section.
