Weird Things You've Noticed Recently

A random collection of titles that show on my Youtube home page:

- The Soviet way to get Mysteriously Strong
- Last Train Home Playthrough
- The Cruelest Fate - Stroggification
- Outwork everyone by being bored
- The Great Refusal Has Begun
- What if a man practised shooting a million times (soccer)
- 10 books that will make you ADDICTED to reading
- A couple videos on overcoming lust (how does it KNOW?)

and so on, but nothing doom and gloom or conspiracy, so it's definitely algorithm driven according to your preferences.

The thing about YouTube is that so many videos sound appealing but when you watch them there's no substance and they are forgettable. I almost feel like I'm unteachable through YouTube because I never actually get anything out it. It turns into another chain of entertainment consumption, including the dopamine hits from self-improvement fantasies. I also noticed YouTube Premium subscribers can now watch videos at 4x speed. Who is watching a video at 4x speed? There is no reason to watch a video at that speed unless you are there to consume as many as you can, and for what? A waste of time.

I understand where you're coming from but personally I've learned a lot through JewTube vids. I learned how to build several load bearing partition walls in my house. I learned how to add transmission fluid into my vehicle's enclosed transmission system. I learned several complex picking techniques on guitar, and I learned how to build a shed.

These vids all randomly popped up in my feed, so yeah, your algorithm targets your search preferences.

I learned several complex picking techniques on guitar
Nice job, man. I practically learned how to play bass guitar from YouTube. I just watched my musical heroes and tried to imitate hours at a time, all the time in high school. I get a lot of workout videos, too, and some have actually helped me improve my pull-up form. With that said, thats all from videos I had to dig in a bit to find. There was a lot less garbage and more original content ~20 years ago. Nowadays I imagine it has to be endless, the sheer volume of video on Jewtube.

I've also learned practical things from it, it's all of the mind-game stuff, or "wisdom" videos that I find impossible to retain. They most often tend to be a bunch of video clips, images, or animations edited together with some voiceover, probably AI, narrating something that ends up having little substance, probably because it's some college guy with no life experience trying to make an easy living producing bullshit. If I'm going to learn by watching I tend to learn better from a lecture if it isn't something I can learn from the more traditional monkey-see-monkey-do way.
