So I wanna talk about Gypsies here. You know...dirty Gyppos. The only personal interactions I've had with them were being pestered by young Gyppo beggars on the Bosporus ferries in Istanbul.
They are the one race/ethnic group that I have never heard ONE SINGLE person say anything good about; everybody I've met has better things to say about Jews than about Gyppos. They seem to be almost universally viewed as little more than human trash (genetically, they hail from India, so go figure).
My specific questions here are regarding Gyppos in Canada and the USA. Supposedly, there are 10's of thousands of them in Canada, but in the 2021 census, only about 6,500 identified as Gyppos. But of course they have no respect for the law, so most likely lied or failed to submit their census return. I would imagine most Canadian Gyppos would be centered in and around the Toronto area, being Canada's largest metro area. But I've never met any here in Canada, or even known anybody who's met any here.
So I would like to hear from Americans and fellow Canadians here. Have you had any experiences with them here in North America? Are they as thieving and dishonest as every European tells me? Where did they live? Did they live in travel trailers/caravans? Government welfare housing? What did they do for livelihoods? what kind of jobs, or did they just leech off of welfare? Are there any Gyppo areas/neighborhoods that you know of?
I've come across them a lot here in Europe but only one time in the USA. Surprisingly, I was at Starbucks in Northern VA, outside DC, and a Romanian gypsy woman was walking the tables begging for money (in Romanian, no less). I asked her where she was from and she said she was visiting from Romania, but staying with her sister who lives in Maryland (50-70 miles away). I told her that this sort of behavior is not tolerated in America and to leave. My questions, which I never could understand:
1. Did she come to the USA on a visa of some kind? This was in the early 2000s and to my knowledge Romanians could not just walz into the US. She was even dressed like a gypsy you'd see in Slovakia or Hungary.
2. Did she come to the USA to beg? Is that some sort of vacation thing for gypsies?
3. She was alone (her sister came to pick her up later)...why drop her off 50+ miles from home?
4. Does her sister do the same thing in the US? Are they tag-teaming (one in VA and one in MD)?
The whole thing was super weird. In the US we are used to beggars, but they are usually blacks or druggies. Some can be violent or armed, so be careful.
On the other hand, we have a problem with the Irish Travelers, who concoct pretty serious and sophisticated scams throughout the USA, especially in the South. I remember the 1992 scam at Disney World very well, as I'd recently visited there. Surprisingly, they almost pulled it off again just 13 years later. You can read about some of their "work" here:

I was recently in Ireland and specifically asked who these people are, since they still live and roam about the Irish countryside, making temporary encampments (like trailer parks in the USA). I was told they are descendants old pre-colonial Irlsh who used to live a vagabond lifestyle and refused to ever settle down. They live by their own rules and apparently to a point the Irish government lets them.
