The future of flying

Newark Liberty International Airport is “not safe” for travelers, one air traffic controller at the delay-plagued travel hub reportedly warned.

“It is not safe. It is not a safe situation right now for the flying public,” the federal air safety employee reportedly told NBC News correspondent Tom Costello.

“Really an incredible statement, unsolicited. He just said that to me, and separately, ‘Don’t fly into Newark. Avoid Newark at all costs,’” Costello recounted on MSNBC.

The situation has grown so dire that United Airlines — which uses the airport as its primary East Coast hub — announced it was cancelling 35 roundtrip flights daily, saying it was necessary “in order to protect our customers.”

I suppose you're right that it's photoshopped.

However, it's been around for years, and I accepted it as real. There's that other picture of him with his fag husband sitting together holding the baby, which is equally bad in my mind, so I never even thought to doubt the picture with the plastic tits.

Hopefully this picture did help to obliterate his career.

Lufthansa flight flew for 10 minutes without conscious pilot, investigation reveals

Not much that can be done to prevent this happening at least occasionally. It's an unusual combination of circumstances, but certainly possible.

Modern airliners are coming close to the point where they could do the whole flight from takeoff to landing by autopilot. The pilot is still needed to react to emergencies, but in a case like this, the risk of flying on autopilot for 10 minutes was pretty low.

Of course it's preventable.
Anytime one of the 2 pilots leaves the cockpit, a flight attendant should go inside and wait until they return.

I believe this is SOP in the USA. Not sure if it's different in Europe or if they were disobeying procedure.
