Jury found that the Chinese spy stole trade secrets related to the hardware infrastructure and software platforms that allow Google’s supercomputing data center to train and serve large AI models. The variation to the BNO visa scheme to come to the UK permanently was put in place in 2019 when the conservatives were in power.
It's hard to say how many actually Hong Konger's actually came over to the UK and how many have actually returned....as the UK government doesn't often publish official numbers. I seem to remember something like 7 million native Hong Konger's were eligible. After 5 or 6 years they can get UK citizenship and it's more likely they'll move again once they get their new British passport, and go somewhere else with better salaries like Singapore or Taiwan, rather than return to Hong Kong. The simple fact that the Chinese government did not ask the UK for this scheme to be abolished during the most recent talks says a lot about where things really stand.

As for the visa free entry to China for Brits...this will not help the economic situation if China still forces all tourists to download (and officially register with) local Chinese smartphone payment apps, instead of being able to pay for things with cash and western credit cards, like they were able to before 2020. No other country in the world forces all tourists to pay for absolutely everything with smartphones...not even North Korea. This simple fact in itself, is what's preventing more tourists going to China, not the visa issues.

Just because you or LAN can't figure out how to use vpn doesn't mean the rest of the world can't. I included capacity numbers index to 2019 (Pre-Covid) from OAG and Forwardkeys for those that don't trust Chinese data.

The requirement to speak some basic English to get British citizenship has existed for over 20 years, so that's nothing new. The income requirement is new, and I believe it's not been approved yet, so those Hong Konger's that migrated in 2020 and 2021, can still get citizenship this year without it.

That survey is based on less than 2000 people, so is unreliable as those who left Hong Kong are over 100,000 at a bare minimum . More to the point, if you were an anti government dissident in Hong Kong before 2020, I hardly think you would participate in such a survey. You need to exclude Hong Kong and Macau to see true tourism numbers, as both these areas still have their own currencies and also still accept cash and western credit cards.

Not sure what using a VPN has to do with being forced to use Chinese apps to pay for everything. VPN or not, you are still forced to pay for everything with a smartphone on the mainland.

I visited Hong Kong often from 2005-2018 and there was a continual surge in mainlanders, who were not the most welcomed, but it got really bad after about 2012 when tons more began to arrive from India (not the commonwealth/empire types), Indonesia and Africa. Last time I was there, Kowloon was simply overrun by Indians and Africans. It seemed African pimps were selling Indian whores, but I might be wrong about the details.

Seems that it didn't stop the Russians from visiting into China. Funny that the very thing that you project upon China as being controlling with their currency and abusive with their sanctions is what drew the Russians towards the Chinese from the US clown world system if the Ukraine war.

That would be a plan for the 2030s, it is too early to implement now. Before they do that, the Chinese will need to continue climbing up the product value chain and doing more outsourcing of their lower end manufacturing. They would also need to continue stockpiling gold and silver to back up their currency.

Sometime in the next 5-10 years, they will start letting the RMB appreciate to 3-4/USD, at which point their domestic market will be sufficient to anchor their economy, and most of their exports will be high value/high tech products.

That speech was delivered on January 2024. 2 years ago. Xi was simply saying US' QE, Sanctions, and abuse of the SWIFT system are risking global crisis and are offering an alternative financial system that serves the real economy rather than capital to avoid the risk of US' financial behavior.

We should be all aware of this now if you're paying attention to the DXY, XAU, XAG chart as well as global ownership of UST.

Cambodian authorities have arrested nearly 2000 Chinese citizens in several scam compounds raids throughout the city of Bavet. The Chinese mafia, which is the unofficial arm of the CCP, has in recent years violently monopolized and grown the scamming industry across South East Asia with emphasis on the Myanmar-Laos-Cambodia triangle. In much of Asia these scam compounds have a scary ring to them, gangsters operating them are luring and kidnapping (tens of) thousands of unsuspecting foreigners to man them. This is the reasons why Chinese tourism to Thailand has greatly decreased, a mid level Chang actor got kidnapped near Bangkok Airport and driven over the border where he managed to escape. Story went viral and that was that.

Chinese triads abroad have served as a money laundering and influence arm of the CCP for a long time yet this well known pattern is now taking a turn in Cambodia. Clarity will soon follow, but first indication is that the current crackdown is more than just superficial. Shady Chang shell companies operated by Chinese gangsters with links to the CCP have been buying up property next to HVT and critical infrastructure all over the Indo Pacific, South East Asia and even places like the Americas. In Cambodia the scam industry has added extra layers of money laundering and influence politics over the Hun Dynasty, the Chinese triads are vital in furthering Beijing’s goals in the region.

US and UK authorities cracked down on Cambodia's scam industries some time ago. Then the Thailand border clashes resumed which clearly had a deeper layer to it and saw many Cambodian scam compounds getting targeted. Now the Cambodian authorities are cracking down hard on the scam compounds (which made them filthy rich) and the Chinese gangs operating them.

It's impossible to keep up with all the buildings, bridges and tunnels exploding and collapsing in China but every now and then it serves a purpose to put out a visual reminder that structures and China is still not a good combination.

Somewhere in China a big bridge collapsed whilst under construction. This doesn't even hit the surface because China and deep down we all kinda expect it. Literally happens several times a week. You keep making claims of things I never said.

I have never claimed there are no Taiwanese living in mainland China, nor have I ever talked about Chinese sanctions as you mentioned in a previous post. Instead of responding directly to my observations, you seem to prefer to always pivot to another argument, to avoid the questions I bring up. This is unfortunate because you are an interesting member here with boots on the ground first hand knowledge of the situation, but it also seems you are limited in making even the tiniest criticisms of mainland China at all, as your online content (including posts on this forum) is possibly being monitored (VPN notwithstanding).

On a general basis, I really used to like mainland China and visited a number of different times from 2000 to 2019, but the radical changes to society that they have made since the year 2020 made me (and thousands of other tourists and businessmen) stop going there since then.

All valid points.

However China has imposed a lot of the same restrictions they put on on tourists and foreign businessmen, also on their own people, which shows this isn't just about protecting the country from external threats. If the local Chinese were exempt then I could accept this line of thinking more. Russia seems to do a much better job of limiting foreign influence and meddling without severely limiting their own people's freedom. The covid period from 2020 to 2022 is an excellent example of this.
