The US plan instead is to kneecap its growth, look at the ban imposed on Huawei, which would have otherwise been as big as Samsung in the US, or on the sale of tech to China like advanced chips and ASML lithography machines. I think the turning point in US policy towards China was the arrest of the Huawei CEO's daughter in 2019. The policy ever since has since been the Tanya Harding approach, kneecap them before they really blow up as a mega superpower.
