Texas, New Mexico and Arizona Thread

I really enjoy the NM gastronomy. It definitely has a unique flavor & is not Tex-Mex. Shadies in Albuquerque was my favorite. Unfortunately crime in the city is a big problem. Not everywhere, but it's pervasive. A lot of homeless too. Housing prices were lower compared to Phoenix, Durango, Santa Fe, etc. Your house money goes farther... just be sure you have good security.

Santa Fe has an artsy fartsy hipster vibe, combined with a higher cost of living due to the fact that some actors make their homes nearby. Fortunately there is a high-speed train which connect ABQ with SF, and many ABQ locals ride it to SF for a higher pay employment. The altitude makes the capital city rather dry, and bleak in the winter. The landscape is kinda of brown too. But the San Juan mts are a few short hours north and that is beautiful country.

Farther south you are closer to Mexico and that comes with it's own set of problems. I met people in that part of the state who were big into astronomy and some were UFO guys. Always watching for the next meeting with little green men. The landscape allows for stargazing, if you are into that.

Speaking on non-white...here is my observations.
Latinos - they seemed more humble and not really loud and boisterous as those found in south Florida. Many are poor but working class poor. I never had bad interactions. Unfortunately there are Latino gangs who made their presence known.
Pueblos - the Navajos are definitely more isolated and do not integrate, beyond the tourist traps. They got the short end of the stick, I know. But at this point in time they wish to be disconnected with the white world. If you are not native, you will not be allowed on the Rez. My eyes opened wide the first time I saw a guard shack and gate, after taking the wrong exit on the highway. Turn around whitey.

Even though the state normally votes blue, it's not crazy California woke disease blue. It is a reflection of the poverty and dependence on the system for welfare and government programs. The state has a gun culture, reflected by the large amount of land and big game hunting.

And there is a town called Los Alamos. Aside from the WW2 history, that place has a collection of geniuses, particularly in the STEM fields. IQ levels are very high and is required for working in secret government technology that we aren't supposed to know about.

Overall I think NM gets looked over since it's a very poor state. That's my .02.
