Donald Trump: Criticism & Debate Thread

If anyone has any contacts with the Trump team, no matter how low down the totem pole they are, please send them this message.

It is no longer 2017, most people are struggling greatly. The TV/legacy media is completely dead to anyone under 50. Twitter and other social media outlets let people know when you don't follow through on promises. Your promises can't get you re-elected, so you might as well try to tamper the coming storm and do what is right. And this is not right at all, knock it off, too many young men know the truth.

Not a frequent poster here anymore, but I have a few observations about the Trump presidency;
There has been some good work done, especially by DOGE and Elon's contribution. But the fundamental problems remain. Like I talked about during the runup to the election, I thought the progression would be something like;

1. Trump wins (check)
2. An initial period of optimism (check)
3. A gradual reduction in enthusiasm and eventual disappointment...

I think unfortunately that this is the most likely option still. (Not to take anything away from the good work that has been done so far) It's more of a general observation of how people work. They demand much and are quick to jump ship. It takes a lot to break free from the left-right, back and forth dynamic of modern mainstream politics.

I also see the tendency that Trump is backtracking, on tariffs, NATO, immigration etc. That's not a good sign. I wish the US would pull out of NATO and pull all troops out of Europe full stop. That would be a good thing for both areas, but especially for Germany, who has been occupied by the US since 1945 basically. How could they arm (Vance) when the US has stopped them from doing so? And the US has to a large extent brought "Globohomo" to Germany and Europe in general. Not this admin's fault, but at least Vance is lacking in perspective.

You either stay well clear of the bear, or you kill the bear! I'm just worried that Trump will poke the bear (our enemies) and then run away, or not be able to complete the job like last time. That could lead us into a really bad situation in a few years, also like last time. Trumps age is factor here...He's not like Putin, who was 47-48(?) when he took power in Russia. As a final note, it's not all negative, and I hope I'm wrong in many ways, but I don't think so. I know how humans operate at this point. Elon is doing great work non the less though, and maybe DOGE + potential scientific progress will be the positive legacy of this Presidency in the end.

All a part of the "party of free speech" LOL
I'm fine with clamping down on what passes for free speech. The First Amendment has no conception of the kind of treason and self-destroying marxism that comes out of the mouth of the left today. So if Trump would be just as bold against that as he is against anti-Israel speech, then at least that would be respectable.

There's really no way Trump can exit NATO without Congressional approval. Trump and Vance are trying to change minds, it's a slow process, can't be done in one administration most likely. Might be doable in the next 10-15 years.

He has floated the idea himself. I don't know if he could force it through, but now it looks like he's not intending to anyways. You might be right that it's a slow process, but that brings me back to the problem of Trumps age. He can't pull of a Putin and remain the de facto leader in a new admin, like Putin vis a vis Medvedev. And if he can't finish the process of changing America, which probably would take many decades, it's probably better not to start at all, since the pushback could be really bad.

Elon is a joker here though, as he's a smart guy with a lot of power, so things are a bit unpredictable...

Trump will start the process of change which goes through political parties. Change in America works through the parties and lasts over successive cycles.

Agreed.
