He has to offer religious freedom, and then respond harshly to any religious based violence. I'd say that's what he's trying to do, without inflaming tensions and making things worse. Once you arrive at this conclusion, any nitpicking really is just arm chair quarterbacking.
The main issue I have with Putin is not the existing Muslims in Russia as not much can be done in that regards but he can at least stop importing new Muslim migrants by the hundreds of thousands per year into the country. That is the biggest problem and there is no good reason for him to do so.

Once again, Russia is showing the way.

Russian MPs approve language tests for children of migrants

RT3-4 minutes

School-age minors who do not speak Russian will be denied free education under the new rules

The Russian national school system will not provide free education to children of foreigners who fail to pass a basic language test, according to a new law passed on Wednesday by the State Duma.

The legislation was introduced by lawmakers from all five factions in the lower chamber of the Russian parliament with the backing of Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

It is part of a larger legislative effort to curb criminality linked with guest workers. The parliament has passed over a dozen relevant amendments this year. The speaker has asked the Foreign Ministry to explain the rationale behind them to foreign governments.

”We are fighting illegal migration and do everything to invite prepared people who respect our laws and traditions,” Volodin said during the session.

The changes to the school rules will enter force in April 2025. They authorize the government to test children of foreign nationals who enroll in Russian schools for fluency sufficient to comprehend the lessons. Those who fail will be barred from regular schools as an exception to the universal right of minors to free basic education. Applicants will also need to prove that they have legitimate residency rights.

The total number of foreign nationals living in Russia stands at 14.5 million to 16.5 million, according to Aleksandr Bastrykin, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee. Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev estimated in late October that 740,000 people are staying in Russia illegally.

Irregular migration has long been a hot button topic in the country, but became particularly acute after a terrorist attack in March at the Crocus City Hall theater near Moscow, in which 145 people were killed. It was conducted by four Tajik nationals, according to investigators. Many of the people suspected of aiding and abetting them were foreign nationals from Central Asia, some with a history of breaking the law.

Among the changes introduced in Russia in 2024 is the creation of a list of migrants caught for various violations, which the Interior Ministry will update. The rights of people on the list will be significantly restricted if they are allowed entry. They will be barred from certain jobs, will not be able to buy real estate or vehicles, start businesses, marry, use banking services, or travel freely between various parts of Russia.

Russian MPs have also ramped up punishments for the organization of illegal migration, made the deportation of rulebreakers simpler, and cracked down on loopholes such as arranged marriages with Russian citizens.

It sounds a bit like a catch 22. If those migrant children do not speak Russian how will they learn Russian without attending school? Yes foreign children need to learn Russian but this is a dumb way of trying to fix the problem.

I feel there are other ways to deal with this problem either through the government offering remedial Russian lessons for foreign children whose Russian language skills are inadequate or by punishing the parents in other ways. But this just seems like a silly and impractical solution.

Russian cargo ship "Ursa Major" sunk in the Mediterranean. 14 sailors have been rescued, while 2 are still missing.
Contrary to some reports the ship wasn't heading to Syria, she was loaded with specialized equipment for the port of Vladivostok.

Theme park culture must be alive and well in Russia too. I think sometimes people just align with celebrity, or anything that is notable. It's also sort of very globohomo/ecumenical.
It could perhaps be interpreted as not rejecting or denying their own past. I'm sure the Soviet period did that, so it is an implicit rejection of past mistakes to accept it all now and not try to cherry pick.

Yes, Russia wholeheartedly embraces its past. Obviously, I'm not trying to give history lessons, but in the context of the monument it makes sense to mention the significance of the Soviet Union. Lavrov himself said that those who wish the Soviet Union never existed have no heart, those who want it back have no brain.

Despite the horrendous methods that were applied, there is something spectacular about the attempt to keep such a large chunk of Europe outside of western influence. Even East Germany was still "pure", while their West German counterparts were already learning to make post-war guilt and anti German mindsets part of their identity. We all know how negatively that has impacted Europe, given Germany's economic importance.

Anyway, it reminds me of how Russians speak fondly of the Tsars, but they would never bring them back. Lenin's embalmed body is still on display in Moscow and people, old and young, flock to visit him from all over Russia. Thus, this monument would be precisely the most Russian thing ever, to be honest.

It must be my independent streak I've inherited from growing up in America. All said and done I have very little attachment to the historical and cultural past in an institutional sense. If anything I'm drawn to those in the past who were very independent, so, more to the explorers of the American West and even nomadic natives.

I can respect tradition but it's true I'm idealistic about it. I respect how East Germany and Russia held fast in some ways to something other than the standard globohomo mindset post WWII, but... wasn't Bolshevism and Marxism just another brand of globohomo?

^Bolshevism was pretty much the worst brand ever.

Cinemas in Russia's majority Muslim Dagestan have started cutting 18+ scenes from films, with Sydney Sweeney reportedly the first casualty. In Makhachkala, screenings of the thriller The Housemaid had lingerie and nude scenes removed, though the audio was left intact. Cinema management cited religious reasons, saying they don’t want to show “haram” content. Especially with families in the audience, even though the film isn’t for minors.Viewers who want the full version are effectively being told, watch it at home.
