Weird Things You've Noticed Recently

That's why I left Twitter/X. Way too much rage-bait, engagement-bait. I thought, "why am I letting all of these strangers steal my energy by making me outraged all the time?" I felt like I was able to chill-out majorly after leaving and I haven't been tempted to go back at all. I also began to hate the grifters who seemed as if they were talking to you, calling you out, but it was carefully crafted bait. It got tiresome.

I don't know if this is because I live in the mountains, because I work for myself and I'm around during the day or I'm just getting older but I feel like I'm seeing less and less young people around in general.

When I'm out and about in the world, all I seem to see is old people shuffling around or people my own age.

The young people that I DO see also don't seem to be as young and fresh and attractive as they should be.

Am I the only one who sees this or am I seeing the population decline in real time because the repopulation rate is below 2.1? Or maybe all the young people are in the cities?

They don't leave the house anymore and they look like slobs, broccoli hair, flannel pajama pants, flip flops and a hoodie two sizes too big.

Even my younger cousins who work hard and have money, dress nice and take care of themselves I ask them "what did you do this weekend" and it's crickets....

I agree that they don’t get out, or if they do in the city, it’s usually out to grab a bite. My wife and I took our little ones out for ice cream recently and my wife asked, “Is it just me, or do kids look rough nowadays?”

Not only did they look rough in general, but like FrancisK said, most of these kids dressed like slobs. It was a sea of flannel pajamas, frumpy shirts and hoodies, nasty oversized crocks and dudes with shorts way too short. If that was my dating pool, I’d probably be single for life.

Most of the younger people I see out are pretty into church and take Christianity seriously. They usually dress better and seem happier overall.

The church and non drinking activities are the main part of my social life as well, and I'm very grateful for it. We are seeing a rising number of Christians where I live, and it's having a very positive effect on the community.

There really are a lot more old people. When I was a teenager, more than half the population in the US was under 30. At that time, most people in public were young, and old people were a much smaller percentage of the whole. Now, there really are a lot more old people, and it's less common to see young people. I believe the pattern is the same in Europe.

With the extreme sub-replacement birthrates in most places, it's much less common to see children. I imagine if you go to one of these third world countries that still has a high birth rate, you'd see children and young people everywhere, and far fewer old people.

I have a close relative who owns a liquor store in one of the busiest largest college campuses in the country, right smack dab in the middle of student housing it's a famous popular store. It's been a cash cow for decades, him, his two brothers and his father god rest his soul and even now his son have all become very wealthy off of this one liquor store. I saw him recently and asked "how's business" and he laughed and said "what business the store is dead", I laughed back thinking he was being sarcastic but he wasn't. He said kids don't party anymore, they don't have gatherings, they barely leave the house the campus doesn't even have foot traffic anymore. They stay home, get high, order delivery and socialize online....that's it.

I thought about it and he's right, shitty kids or even good kids that's what they all do now. I spoke previously about my younger second cousins...teenagers, these guys are good looking, don't mess around, they work hard they have lots of money for their ages, they present themselves very well and they have their act together better than most grown men I know. But again....ask them what they did this weekend and they have nothing to say. I encourage them to go out and do things but they just have no interest. They go to work, go to the weekly family gatherings other than that they're at home. For a long while I was actually upset with my cousins, their uncles, because I felt like they were stealing their youth from them giving them so much responsibility at such young ages but that wasn't the case.

I often go into nature walking and its a lot of old and middle aged people and families with younger children but the middle section is not really there.

The last time I saw young healthy looking people was when I picked my wife up at the airport. Outside of that, I hardly ever see them around the small town I'm living in, but old people I see everywhere. I wonder how much of it has to do with housing. In this town the housing is mostly owned by old people, retirees who sold a house in California and moved to a cheap state. When I'm in the next string of towns over, bigger towns, the young people look pretty rough, like country low-income rough. The moms with kids are almost universally disgusting.

Other unusual things I've been noticing are landscaping crews. Last year they were Hispanic crews. This year they're old white dudes who look rough and worn, coming in with ancient beat-up vans and mowing the lawn with a push-mower, typically by themselves. I'm happy they're getting the work if it means illegals aren't working those jobs. It took a long time for my apartment complex to find people because the grass got super long. If I had a mower I'd do it myself. I really hope it continues to be the case illegals don't feel welcome and don't steal all the work. I'm sure there's loads of young white men who'd be more than willing to do the work. This is an aside, but the other day I saw a linemen utility truck driving erratically, and when I caught a glimpse of the driver through the sideview mirror, he looked like a young African. I'm thinking, what is this guy doing driving this truck barely staying his lane and how'd he get the job?

Wearing flip-flops would be considered dressing up for these young women. Most of the time they are in bedroom slippers and the aforementioned flannel pajamas and hoodie.

And because they don't care about their clothes or their hair, none of them wear makeup either. They all have that appearance of just rolling out of bed in the morning. What a lazy generation...

When I picture common kids now.....

For girls it's a massive tshirt or hoodie with the shortest shorts you've ever seen to where the shirt is longer than the shorts or flannel pants with a crop top on a girl who has no business showing so much skin....usually a dirty looking open zip down hoodie over it they are barely keeping on. Hair ragged and face greasy like she hasn't showered in a week, if she bothered to wear makeup it looks like Halloween costume makeup. House shoes or flip flops always.

For boys it's flannel pants or the tightest gay joggers you've ever seen or weird daisy duke shorts with a T-shirt that looks like it should have been tossed out 20 washes ago. Or occasionally you'll get the super broke black kid wearing so much billboard advertising designer stuff he looks like a cartoon. Head of greasy broccoli hair with a slimy face always. House shoes or flip flops also, but sometimes you'll get the weird way too loud cartoon character athletic shoes.

It's not all of them, again I have teenage cousins who are definitely go getters and care about their appearance. But honestly it's hard to miss now it's so common. I don't want to be that guy just knocking down an entire generation but come on, when I was a teenager you wouldn't have caught me dead in front of a thousand kids in school every day without being dressed to kill, much less out and about. Can't even remember the last time I've seen a kid in even a pair of jeans, telling them to wear jeans is a punishment for special occasions....

The big thing I've been seeing with zoomer and younger girls is the big baggy jeans. I feel like it's a reaction to all the millennials that had the skinny ripped jeans back in the 2010s. It's kinda funny cause it seems like it's a repeat of the big baggy jeans we saw in the late 90s/early 2000s only back then it was dudes mostly wearing them - either because they were trying to look gangsta or because they were the Korn/Limp Bizkit rocker types.

Yeaaaa the weird fitting baggy jeans! You're right they all wear them now, that's something new lately! I didn't even think of how many times I've seen that until you just mentioned it.

Every time I've see a girl wearing them I think "wtf did this girl borrow her dad's pants or something?". They are not a good look at all....

The baggy jeans is indeed a horrible look. I don't like jeans on women in general but it makes me miss the 90s where the women at least wore the hip-hugging jeans which is about as good as jeans can look on a woman.

I've never understood women's attraction for jeans in the first place. Leggings, sure. Those look comfortable. But jeans? They are marketed as being comfortable, but to me, this is a big lie. They were never meant to be comfortable on anyone, nor look good on anyone. They were made for the rigors of panning for gold in the 1800s.

You'd think women would be wearing more dresses and skirts, especially in the summertime. But I always see them (the ones who dress up instead of wearing pajamas) wearing jeans, even in the hot summer heat.

If you walk into a women's store, or window shop, you'll see mannequins wearing those skirts and dresses in the window. However, it seems like very few of them are ever purchased because I only seem them in the stores, but hardly ever on the streets.

I think many are grateful for this oversized jeans fashion because they are overweight.

this isn't a game forum, do not use oversexualized language for no reason

In Latin America the tight hip-hugging jeans are still popular with women. Especially in Colombia. And usually in Colombia the women's jeans are very tight at the backside with no back pockets to accentuate the ass.
