Wrist watches thread

Funny, I actually recently picked up a microbrand watch that's an homage to the MACV-SOG Seiko on the left there.

Modern Seikos just don't have quite the same retro vibe. They're either too dressy or too sporty, the Vietnam-era design nails the balance.

Oooo I like that band, I need to find a nicer nylon band for my every day watch.....

Recently just got a job offer where I'm hitting a career goal I had set for myself so I treated myself by making a watch purchase that's been on my wishlist for a year or more now

I specifically wanted a field watch because I wanted something that would pair more with a more casual outfit. I also like the history behind Hamilton since they were the major watch producer for the US military during WW2.

Hamiltons are great midrange watches. I used to have a Khaki Field Mechanical and I really loved the simplicity of the design plus its heritage. Ended up trading it out but if I were to have a collection of watches I'd want a Hamilton Khaki in it.

I made the mistake of buying a 12 slot watch display case a couple of years ago, when at the time I only owned about 4 modest watches.

Of course I’ve filled that now.

My first serious purchase was a Gilt Tudor Black Bay 58, last year. Very much a darling among enthusiasts, noted for being excellent value for money given its in-house movement, power reserve and build quality. It does draw some criticism, but I think it’s mainly because it’s a tall poppy. I put on an Uncle executive 5 link bracelet, which in my opinion is a lot better than the stock Tudor variant (in looks at least).

Next was the Tudor Ranger. Same movement as the BB58. Very understated field watch, which is part of the appeal. Criticised for not having applied indices, but again, I don’t see that as a minus. It’s claimed to be an homage of the Rolex Explorer, but to my eyes it has more Panerai cues.

Although I really liked the NATO strap on it, I went with a brown leather strap, and more recently, a green canvas on leather strap from Diabolique in Germany.

Then came the grail watch - the latest Sapphire Sandwich Omega Speedmaster.
What can I say, perfect for any occasion. Light play is on another level. Obviously cost big bucks, but I feel it’s well worth it as a watch lover.

A couple of other worthy mentions to the Squale 1521 and Autodromo

Those Casinos still hold up eh?

One thing I don't like is the more recent trend of having bigger, bulkier watches, while in the past a lot of effort was made in making watches thinner.

This. I believe it's because watches have become jewelry (no pun) instead of the tool they're meant to be.
