Weird Things You've Noticed Recently

Funny you just posted this.

This past week I was restaining our dock, and just lightly stung on the shoulder. I haven't been stung in years so thought nothing of it.

10 minutes later I see another land on my hand and again barely sting me before I swatted it away. Damn you! I knew there was a problem.

I found there next neatly tucked up under the deck, well hidden and secured. Dozens and Dozens of them flying around.

They drew first blood, not me

I ran in with a broom and shattered the nest, ran out. Checked later that nite and there was still a softball sized nest there.

I went in again.

It was kind of funny, I shouted that and ran away like in that video Penitent Man posted. Left a half-dollar sized welt. Wife wanted ot know if we should call someone, "Nah this is personal". :D

I loaded up on leather armor for my chest and hat and went back in with a can of raid!

Emptied the can. Went in the next morning with a 2nd can.

I went back in with another can and emptied it, another couple dozen dead. I looked up and the nest about twice as big as the first time I knocked it out. So I broomed that out as well.

Up close I saw figured out they weren't bees, but yellow jacket wasps - so that explained the aggressiveness.

Went back in with another can and noticed that there were still nest shards all around that I missed so I scraped them out. A couple came at me, so I bolted.

Checked again a few hours later and there was just 1 left.

So I swapped him up against the deck with a broom pan. Splat!

They were a worthy foe and I give them respect.

I'm guessing this isn't over and they will remember me and my smell.... Until next season......

So my wife and I were on a day trip today out thru some rural farmland and mountains etc. She made an observation as we passed a beautiful field in rolling hills will round hay bales covering the field. She asked me “ is there something soothing or anxiety reducing about seeing scattered objects in fields whether it is cattle, sheep or hay bales”? I said I had to agree, there is something very therapeutic about that visual. And it’s not the same effect with an empty grass field or cornfield etc. It must be a spacial/visual thing with the same objects in different positions and space, sizing or something. I would also say the same when you see the white puffy clouds across a vast horizon like the ocean or Montana prairie etc. Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions on this?

one of the best sensations I have ever experienced in life was to lie down outdoors on a sunny autumn afternoon and proceed to gaze at the clouds without a thought or care in the world. just admire the greatness of all that our true world has to offer. the blue and white of our atmospheric heights coupled with the green of the flora produce a peerless sense of disposition and peace, tempered with the whimsical prospects of a wealth of possibilities that await; a state of pensive mood without the weight of thought

I have decided. I will make a brief getaway from my daily chores and do it tomorrow

I think this is abolutely true. I don't know what about that kind of scene is so soothing, but it certainly has that effect for me as well.
