Can someone explain the arguments AGAINST a TikTok ban? The app is trash imo, and is used to destroy the minds and attention spans of people. I’ve never downloaded it, but have been sent various videos that seem like 15 second snippets of trash. The entire influencer culture should be demolished, but people are too addicted for that to ever happen.
I highly doubt with any sort of divestment that this app will be used to promote family values or some such thing.

Not at all, Tik Tok is the reason so many are questioning Israel and our own satanic elites. I never used Tik Tok, I never signed up for it, but when the Gaza genocide kicked off, all other social media would heavily restrict information and videos coming out of Gaza. Had it not been for Tik Tok, most of us would think a few dozen children accidentally died, and Israel was fighting heroic battle against some blood hungry savage terrorists. Now, thanks to Tik Tok, millions of young westerners righteously hate Israel with a passion, and the pressure is on our satanic elites and Israel.
So, of course the USA govt. doesn't ban Only Fans, but it goes after Tik Tok, showing the great hypocrisy of our system. Tik Tok was the first true free mass media outlet. And hopefully Red Note is able to fill the gap that our satanic elite tried to close.
If we want to celebrate something being shut down, it should be the ADL or Only Fans, Tik Tok was by far the best and the last true free speech application.

So what if the CCP knows a tiny bit of data more about me? What are they going to do to me here, outside of China? How much more of a threat are they to me, than the US govt is?

It's much easier to confiscate farmland that we 'sold' to the Chinese, than it is to claw back data they've stolen from us through TikTok.
Foreigners who own things in America are deluding themselves if they think Congress isn't one bill away from stealing it all.
From an a US Gov perspective, allowing foreigners to own land is a win-win - our government gets higher property values that they tax, and when things go south, they can steal the land with no electoral consequences and make tons of money selling the land back to the public.
The public of course loses - the inflated prices crush the common man - but the public will be cheering on the eventual confiscation of the land, allowing the government to look like the good guy.
Yes, Tik Tok was all fine when it was people doing silly dances and pranks, even if the entire time the Chinese were stealing information.
But as soon as Tik Tok allowed the footage out of Gaza to come out, and I knew how evil was and still that footage sent me into complete disbelief at the level of evil Israel really is, all of a sudden both parties agreed that Tik Tok had to go. Of course, porn sites, Only Fans, all of that is still okay, just you can't have an app that displays the insane war crimes Israel has committed.
I hope it's banned. And only because I'm a Lyft driver and I have to listen to it when I pick up zoomers. I don't like the nonstop scrolling and the sound of new videos every second.

But I can also see how the TikTok ban saga could be used as a framework for future dealings with Chinese (or maybe all foreign) companies: either face a complete ban, or sell the company to an American owner. This is de facto a soft nationalization.

Social media is very powerful its the new "TV & radio" inside everyones homes, I do think because the US has no control over Tik Tok they not happy that they dont have control over the propaganda, on the other hand I also see their concern, its kind of a big deal to allow a foreign country to control the new TV and Radio inside the Americans homes, the data and spying can also be a concern its actually a weapon and it works both ways, incase you havent noticed China doesnt allow American apps like Facebook either for the same reason.
Look at the influence hollywood has over the world its literally changed the way people think and view things in foreign nations its a great tool and also a weapon at the same time.

That’s exactly my mindset as well. No problem with allowing people freedom of choice and not banning or censoring things, but anything that involves a foreign adversary impacting our US society in a bad way should be banned. That simple. All the influencers who might be out of work? Once all the illegals are sent packing, there will be plenty of jobs plucking chickens and various agricultural, burger flippers, leaf blowers, roof shinglers, etc.
Influencer should have never been a job to begin with.
