This shows US leverage is being used wisely and effectively. Reports that the newly created joint US-Mexican intelligence task force was crucial in its usage of US sourced intelligence. Also a big shout out to the Mexican side which kept the operation secure and confidential. US forces are officially not involved but that might also be a cover to protect Sheinbaum from domestic criticism and of course not put the hundreds of thousands of US citizens (maybe even millions) currently in Mexico in unnecessary danger.
It's one big fish gone, time will tell if the crackdown goes beyond whack-a-mole to please DC.

Cartels need to chimp-out by way of deterrence, if they don't shoot, burn and threaten enough than the threshold for future operations will become dangerously low and they'll soon all be on the hit-list. The Mexican State needs to fear retaliation, that's basically what this is about. Unfortunately for them the Trump Administration is pressing Sheinbaum from the opposite direction.

This is ironic: Mexico is the host country for the big FIFA soccer tournament later this year. That’s where all of the soccer players represent their native country, and it’s country versus country. So Brazil versus Germany or Holland versus France, whatever.

Violence erupts after Mexican cartel leader "El Mencho" killed in federal operation
Mexico's Ministry of Defense security forces killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," in a military operation.
Mexico needs to do like Bukele. Round up every cartel affilated person in the population, and imprison them for life. This requires imprisoning them for life simply for known affiliation with the cartels, without the usual process of trial and conviction of a specific crime.
If this is not done, the cartels will rule, and Mexico will continue to be a hellhole like El Salvador used to be. The cartel members should be considered like pirates in the old days: enemies of humanity to be executed immediately, or imprisoned immediately for life as the modern alternative.
