The Ladies Lounge - What’s on your mind?

To add, I can’t edit the other post since it exceeded the 60 minutes, so here is the updated version (What I added I put in bold):

You do not know me and what I have been through and what I have seen in my life. I am being vigilant. There is real evil out there and I am not going to have a superficial piety, not saying you do but it appears that way, just making you aware. Then behave hypocritical and self-righteous by accusing others of being “judgmental.” By this logic accusing someone of being judgmental is being judgmental in itself, here appears to be implied to mean this in a negative way.

“I don’t know a person’s heart.” Please, this is intuition and vigilance. Please take out your Bible and read John 7:24 AND I Kings 3:9 about how We are to judge.

Defending and siding with evil and people who willingly reject Christ “Because we are all sinners (clutches pearls)”, while opposing people who willingly accept Christ and being vigilant against evil. God KNOWS a person’s true heart AND He is watching.

Look Starlight, please forgive me for coming off like this but I am trying to see you to understand the reasoning here. To suggest this “we‘re all sinners, then protect and side with the “poor and “lost“ people” who do intentional malice to others, how dare you judge them.” Seriously what would Jesus do. Again, John 7:24 AND I Kings 3:9

Here is more scripture that specifically pertains to what and everything I wrote in the two posts that were back to back and what you quoted from me: Matthew 5:22, Proverbs 13:21, Ecclesiastes 10:12-14, Proverbs 12:18, Colossians 3:7-8, Ephesians 4:29-30

Like I mentioned before I did not want to get into some heavy discussions here. My posts were within the reasons of Christ’s examples and teachings but someone had to be “pious” and knock it and not getting the overall message, so I needed to defend it righteously and even include Biblical scripture to defend what I said.

*Also note how I did not target any specific person in my original posts, while the person replying did accuse me directly of “judgmental“ behaviour in a not positive way.
I’m really sorry… I think in my brevity that I wasn’t succinct enough. I was just meaning that “judging” whether someone is a “sincere Christian” or not is not our call to make... That is up to God… that is what my initial post was referring to. We *cannot* determine whether a person is a “true/sincere” Christian.

We should absolutely call out right and wrong and help keep our Christian brothers and sisters on the straight and narrow path by holding each other accountable for our behaviors and actions. We should use discernment regarding people we choose to engage with, absolutely.

I don’t know you, I don’t pretend to. You don’t know me either. We all struggle with something. I screw up all the time but I love God and Jesus… and honestly feel like I’m in a perpetual state of repentance.

If, for you, a person calling someone “stupid” means they aren’t “sincerely Christian,” I would be careful. That’s all I’m trying say.

I want to buy summa that grass-fed beef online, but it has to be the real deal and I no longer trust many businesses to actually tell the truth. Also, I think the whole mRNA vax thing for livestock news is just a way to scare us out of eating meat. Why do they want us off meat so bad?

Meat is the only truly nutritious food.

Maybe so. Do you think most people will worship the Antichrist in the end? Since most human systems have an antichrist-type spirit anyway.

Also, is it normal to feel a bit "electrified" when one is praying the Rosary? I find that when I'm praying especially devotedly, I feel a tingling sensation from my scalp to my feet. ?

Do you do food prep? Beef is pretty simple to preserve.

I don't do much food prep and eating mostly meat is the simplest and most minimalistic diet I've ever been on.

As for your other questions, I'm not sure if they were directed at me, based on what I posted about meat? But- sadly, I think that most will worship the Anti-christ because it seems that they already blindly follow along. However, I do hope that God has mercy and somehow does not allow the majority of people to fall in that manner. But I don't know how I would know. As for the Rosary, I'm ashamed to admit that it's been awhile since I"ve prayed the Rosary or even prayed especially devotedly, but I have gotten a similar feeling before through prayer.

Happy Thanksgiving!

There are lots of prayers besides the Rosary. St. Thérèse was never devoted to it, and she became holy.

Glad to know someone else has had similar experiences during prayer.

I agree, too, that God's mercy would be the best gift in the face of the worship of the Antichrist.

Do you work out or anything? I walk a lot and do calisthenics. Lots of stretching.

I had posted on the old forum right before the shift, about how my ex-FIL (kids' grandpa) had some bogus accusations/charges thrown at him by the family of the woman he was recently/briefly married to (her cognition was declining and it looks like her family wanted to take her money and put her in a home).

Have been preoccupied with that nonsense for a while.

It remains a very sad situation with a sad outcome, but I'm pleased to say, at least, that the charges have all been dismissed.

I remember what you posted on the old forum about that situation so it's good to hear that the charges have been dropped.

One thing I've noticed surging lately is that people are being quick to sue each other. It's the new "revenge" that also has the added bonus of making them money.
People will often sue a company, knowing that they will lose, just to get a “go away” settlement. It’s cheaper to pay that, than the attorney fees actually fighting a case.

Finally got a good rhythm with our homeschooling curriculum. Didn’t like one specific one, so cobbled one together from Singapore Math, Well-Trained Mind, Handwriting Without Tears, and some Orthodox material. Really pleased with the outcome so far, but it sure is hard keeping a toddler and a baby occupied, along with balancing all the other house duties.

Something triggered the worst eczema I’ve ever had (I was on IV antibiotics for a couple days many months ago). I cut out all sugar, processed foods, and enriched flour from my diet… it’s gotten better but not all the way. Still doing research into the GAPS diet and Sally Fallon’s series on traditional diets.

I cut out every processed food from my diet for over a month and my eczema is totally gone! I shed so much baby weight too. Still not sure what triggered it, but I stay away from gluten (specifically the synthetically “enriched” flours), sugary foods, etc and replaced 1 meal with a smoothie and so far so good. No topical steroids or anything. It sucked for about 3 weeks, but after reading about the gut > eczema connection, I figured there was no point in suppressing a process my body was bent on completing. It was like a cleansing process. My skin is now super clear, I’ve never had bad acne but now I barely take care of my skin at all and it looks the same as when I was using expensive skin products like Drunk Elephant. Many people have commented on the difference.

Here is my go-to smoothie recipe:

- 1-2 cups of frozen fruit
- 1/2 cup raw kefir
- raw, grass fed milk as liquid; as much as needed
- splash of orange juice
- splash of Lakewood cranberry blend juice
- couple handfuls of whatever salad mix I have, sometimes frozen kale
- 2 TBS chia seeds
- 1 TBS flax seeds
- 2 scoops Perfect Supplements Collagen (check them out, very clean)

The film "The Quiet Girl" is an extremely touching and beautiful drama. It follows a girl who stays for a summer with extended family because her own home is too overcrowded and too poor to take care of her. But are her foster parents any better?

This was a visually thoughtful and beautiful movie to watch.

I’d like to make a thread in the Coffee House section to discuss topics like real estate that I can actually contribute to 🙂 but I’d be making duplicate threads.

We’re sitting on land we own free and clear, worth low 6 figures. Love the area, ag land, no environmental or flood issues. My husband works in high level construction management, so building a house ourselves we save 20-30% right off the bat. But construction prices are still pretty high. We’re getting bids and for a 4/4 3,000 sqft house (we have enough kids to not fit in a standard car) we’re at around 600k and that’s with a lot of contractor specials (196/sqft!). It’s not the build price that’s the issue, so much as the property taxes. Here in FL, they are outrageous lately. A 2023 build, homesteaded house 2600 sqft runs $7,800 in property taxes a year. So we already know we’re gonna be above that. Also, the market is really cooling around us, and we’re thinking maybe we should hunt for a 200-something-k home and pay it off in 2-3 years and then build when it’s a better time and have a paid off property to boot.

But the idea of yet another move and a small space is… 🥴 but I have a baby due in November and just want to be settled in. We can build a home in 3-4 months start to finish. I’m usually really on the nose with real estate, but this market is so weird and there’s uncertainty about flood/home insurance and whether a new bill increasing homestead to lower property taxes is going to take off next year. 99% of properties do not cash flow for rentals andthe rental market is cooling too. I see many Air BNBs hitting the resale or long term market as well.

Any thoughts?

Of course, I don't know your complete financial picture, but I'll say that my husband and I are being very fiscally conservative right now, given the state of the economy and how it's affected us. I lost a high-paying job last August, in spite of excellent performance reviews all along the way, due to "cost-cutting". My small onshore team was cut and all the cheaper offshore people were retained. I've never had any trouble finding a good job until now, and I've heard from many recruiters that they've never seen so many highly qualified people unemployed for so long. This may not affect your family given your husband's line of work and I hope it doesn't, but it does indicate an unusually difficult economy.

What size is the land that you guys own? If it's a decent size acreage you could consider putting in a portable/prefab home to live in while your main house is being built. Once the main house is built, section off the parcel with the prefab and sell/rent it.

You can pay off a $200k home loan in 2-3 years??

I’m so sorry to hear that. Is this an area where you could possibly pivot and start your own thing? Or maybe transition to an adjacent field? One time my husband got laid off from a crappy healthcare job the week before Christmas with no prior notice. We were living on the edge back then with a mortgage to pay for and one low income. But Glory to God, this ended up being for the best. I pray another door opens for you! I’m getting the same vibes about a shift, especially in our local RE market and it’s got us wanting to be more risk adverse too…

Our city ordinances only allow one residence per lot (if there’s a kitchen it’s considered a home), there’s some go arounds if you connect it with a dog trot, but it ends up being costly and kind of a pain. We were thinking of doing something like this with a large metal building garage with 2 bedrooms, but then it’s like we need a kitchen and what about a common living space and before you know it you’ve overbuilt and it detracts resources from the end goal. I did the math on converting a shed to a tiny home here once, and the numbers were laughably bad, like almost 200k. Then there’s septic permits which you’re not really supposed to be able to apply for more than you need. Might be able to “for future use” permit it, but by the time you add in site work costs, fill dirt, concrete pad, all that effort it’s like you might as well have built the SFH. In our state there are a lot of requirements other states don’t have, like everything, even garages, has to be engineered and stamped so it’s several more thousands of dollars to get even get to the plans stage and specific permits/inspections.

We’re in hurricane central so a portable/stick frame/temp housing is sketchy. It’s block/metal or nothing. It’s several acres, nothing crazy so don’t want to split it, it’s just rural-ish AG a stone’s throw from a desirable town and the coast so that ups the value. We’ve added utilities out here, paid in cash, so we’ve got a lot of $$ tied up in it; not easy to draw that equity if you’re not building directly on the land. Our lender will apply full market value to our construction loan which would bring total cost down a lot, but then the backend is just terrible with taxes. It’s happening all over the state, tons of people moving out of state after $xx,xxx in taxes and insurance. People dumping their AIR bnbs/VRBOs. Mega builders dropping prices + offering big incentives. I expect this to improve if there’s a big dip in sale prices, but that’s gonna take some time. Let’s say there are 2 homes… one is a 20 year old McMansion that hasn’t had a single thing updated, got several inches of flooding despite being built on a hill, and has a cracked slab and the other is a mega builder new construction home that’s the same size with same features and they pay closing costs. They’re both the same price. Actually, the new one can be had for 20k less on certain models. That’s the tipping point we’re at.

Closer to 200k, absolutely doable in 2-3 years, closer to 300k would take a couple more years. Same price as this new build per month, except a couple thousand extra going towards principle instead of interest, and if something happens, we have flexibility. No debt, drive paid off, older cars with affordable (for here) insurance, biggest help with kids is that our state pays for homeschooling through a scholarship so you get basically the equivalent of what the public school would get if your child enrolled. It covers so much: classes, sports, curriculum, some furniture, teaching aids, so that takes the pressure off my husband cause that stuff adds up quick. We’ve survived off of 50k a year with a mortgage that ate up half that once upon a time and no govt benefits, so totally willing to scrimp for a decent paid-off property. Problem is finding one that cheap that isn’t a total disaster. Right now you could definitely buy something for sub 200k and probably lose your shirt still and live in a mold pit and face total loss of belongings every other year. It’s super annoying because we’ve found a couple good value properties but we’re competing with realtors and cash investors. The scary thing is that they don’t even cash flow at the prices they’re paying + Reno costs. Even new construction in town on a mini mountain of elevation is not entirely out of the flood zone. Paying $4k a year for mandatory NFIP flood (not including general insurance!) insurance on a sub-1500 sqft *new* build is insane. It’s not like that price is likely to ever go down. So those are the cons for buying pre-existing right now (in our area).

Sorry for long post, we’re in kind of a funny situation and it’s stressing me out a bit because pregnancy, and we’re like 2 years deep into one direction. My husband is really happy about all this, he says we have many options and I should be happy, but I just want to have a home again. It took us 6 months from start to finish to design these plans and see them through engineering, and at this point I wonder if we should just find stock plans for a small block home, get them stamped, and go from there.

PS, if anyone here needs a new AC, get ‘em now. Prices are going to increase several thousand because they require a different refrigerant.

I, honestly, think the best advice I can give for you in this situation is to trust your husband. He seems to have made very good choices for your family.

Focus on your children and being peaceful. Take a breath. You are in good hands. I know it's hard when you feel like you're in limbo and trying to get everything ready for the new baby coming. If you're due in November then you have plenty of time. It is a lot and can feel very overwhelming but you can do this, it will all work out. It might be a few challenging months but I'm sure it's nothing you haven't faced before. :)
