REVIEW: The Real North Korea, by Andrei Lankov

The Real North Korea: Life and Politics in the Failed Stalinist Utopia, Andrei Lankov (Oxford University Press, 2014).

In the 1980s, Japan experienced a crisis of disinformation. For years, there had been mysterious disappearances of Japanese people with no known history of mental illness, drug addiction, or gambling debts. All kinds of people — men and women, young and old, just suddenly vanishing without a trace. Many theories were put forward to explain the puzzle (for instance, some believed it was alien abductions), but the most widespread, pernicious, and dangerous view was that North Korea was responsible. There were people who claimed to have actually seen teams of North Korean commandos lurking on beaches, nabbing random passers-by, and bundling them into waiting submersibles just off the coast. This was obviously crazy. Products, no doubt, of atavistic xenophobia and reactionary sentiments. The Japanese media, government, and academic authorities put a lot of effort into refuting this dangerous disinformation throughout the 1980s and 1990s…which made them look real silly when in 2002 Kim Jong-Il issued a formal apology for the abductions and ordered the surviving captives returned to Japan.

Apparently there has been a bit of a degradation recently in the urban sphere in Tokyo, homelessness, grafitti, trash...

So, this video caused a bit of a stir, with some youtubers reacting to it, primarily another big youtuber calling her out. Well, the guy dropped a video today. Pretty straight forward stuff we've already covered, but what's incredible is what motivated him to call her out.

It's the racist, anti-migrant comments her video inspired.

Totally correct.
There are over 124 MILLION ethnic Japanese squeezed onto a long and thin island nation.
It's way too overcrowded already.
They are worried about workforce shrinkage because of the dependency ratio. Who will pay the healthcare and pensions of retirees? Although personally I think immigrant labour is a cure that is worse than the disease and will not fix the issue at all.

This financial "burden" is totally fabricated as a huge deception.
Governments have a hundred other options to raise capital for these expenses such as renting or selling off public owned real estate, or selling off other assets.

Besides, as the covid lockdowns from 2020 to 2022 showed, governments can pay the private company wages of an entire nation when it suits them with no problems.

There is a special type of western retard in Japan. As another forum member put it, "Japan is life on easy mode". A lot of these foreigners are shut in types who consume a staggering amount of social media. They are very unhealthy and are perfect receptacles for foreign NGO's to fire their globalist garbage into. Many are very jaded by Japan and speak pretty poorly of it, but at the same time are never going to leave as they know that the world they left behind no longer exists. It can create quite the awful human as a result, and if they do venture out it's usually to meet with others who think in this exact same way.

We are dealing with healthcare for an elderly family member in Tokyo, so I have been paying very close attention to the situation. The one thing that stands out to me is that the system is VERY reluctant to use foreign workers in dealing with the elderly. In fact, they even try to pair nurses with people who have a common interest - usually which area they grew up in. I also see them integrate technology into things that might normally take a human, but would not be necessary.

For instance Neko-Chan. It's just a robot cat. But the way it was presented to my family was that Neko-Chan is very smart and cares a lot about our elders. What does Nekochan do? It tells the elder that 'she' is uncomfortable due to heat/cold. Then it suggests that the heat or AC get turned on. It makes suggestions about food, to remind elders to eat healthy and routinely. It tells us about the pleasant day ahead, or the threat of rain. The next step will be the medication - although for now this is still administered by a nurse who travels from house to house.

I feel like a broken record but Japan/Korea/Taiwan will figure this out and prove the Infinite Indian policy to be total destruction. And when they do, the rest of the western world will demand the same. The race though, is which will happen first; Western destruction, or a cultural cohesion to solve the real issues.

The solution to the dependency ratio is for old people to work longer, and to increase automation. Working longer is doable because healthy lifespans have increased 15-20 years over the last century, maybe even more. Likewise, automation is likely to cover for a reduction in young people.

I do think they might be forced to raise the age for whatever their version of Social Security is. That's always extremely unpopular, but with people living longer and the dependency ratio getting worse, it will probably be unavoidable.

As you said, this is all far better than allowing immigrants in, who would destroy the cohesive, high trust culture, and probably be a net drain on the economy anyway.
