I live behind 14 layers of protection in a town in South Africa
1) Loaded gun within reach.
2) Strategically placed panic buttons throughout the house.
3) Security gate in the hallway protecting the sleeping rooms.
4) A small dog inside the bedroom for early warning in case the dogs outside are poisoned (lucky she has dual purpose as she's my pet as well)
5) Security gates on all doors opening to the outside.
6) Burglar bars on all the windows, including those which can not open.
7) Alarm system with glass breaking and movement detection covering the inside of the entire house.
8) 2 x large dogs guarding the outside at all times (lucky they have dual purpose as they are my pets as well)
9) CCTV system monitoring all external doors and all external areas around the house including the gate and the street.
10) A 6-foot wall surrounding the property.
11) Electric fencing on top of the 6-foot wall.
12) Electric motor to open the gate without getting out of the car.
13) Electric motor to open the garage door without getting out of the car - garage connects internally with home.
14) Armed response.
Installation and maintenance of these layers of protection was/is for my own account, nothing is subsidized by the government.
