Whatever happened to that hole in the ozone layer? That was what they were pushing when I was in elementary school in the 90’s. Telling us we all had to stop using hairspray and refrigerants because chlorofluorocarbons ate the ozone away, and when it got bigger we were all going to bake in the sun like ants under a magnifying glass.

In California where I grew up I remember when they made all the grocery stores stop using paper bags to save the trees. I really liked the paper bags when I was a kid. Now it’s the exact opposite. They’re making everyone get rid of the plastic bags, and I can’t save them so I have to buy other plastic bags to clean my dog’s shit up. I’ll always prefer the paper though.Yep and don't forget to use only plastics so we can save the trees!
It's because the flurocarbons don't break down until they reach the upper atmosphere, where sunlight splits the chlorine atom off of them, and then that chlorine atom binds to an oxygen atom off the ozone. The problem, as I understand it, is it doesn't take much of this product to create chain reactions where the more and more ozone is affected. If we had kept using the product, it absolutely would have destroyed much of the ozone layer. Apparently the ozone hasn't fully recovered, and may not do so until mid-century. CCl2F2 → CCl2F+Cl (UV light is introduced in stratosphere and splits the Cl off)
Cl+O3 → ClO+O2 (Cl binds to an O from O3)
ClO+O → Cl+O2 (Chain reaction that doesn't stop)

I moved from a state where they banned plastic bags to a state where they allow them and it's been such a blessing to have unlimited plastic bags because we use them for so many things. Like others, I liked the paper bags as a kid but when forced to use them as an adult, they broke apart all the time, especially Walmart paper bags, which were the absolute worse. Target bags were okay, they had sturdy handles. Perhaps a happy medium can be found some day by making baskets great again. Not only can we employ all of those basket-weaving majors, but maybe too we can bring some sense and class back to American domestic life.I remember when plastic bags replaced paper so we could save the trees. I like plastic better. You can carry 15 plastic bags with one hand, as long as one of the bag doesn't rip open. With paper bags, you have to pick them up one at a time and carry them from underneath. If you try to grab several by bunching the tops of the bags together, they'll rip every time. Sad!
When I was a kid in the 70's and 80's, paper bags were plenty strong and worked fine without handles. In an absolute emergency, you double bagged.I moved from a state where they banned plastic bags to a state where they allow them and it's been such a blessing to have unlimited plastic bags because we use them for so many things. The plastic killing sealife thing was real, they simply stopped talking about it. Plastic is the nastiest thing.Don't forget the whales dying, acid rain killing trees, and the beer/soda 6 pack plastic rings killing sealife.
I dunno, the theory of the greenhouse effect, where CO2 traps heat, absorbs it, not letting the Earth release its heat seems pretty solid. If it isn't, then how is Venus hotter than Mercury, if not for its thick CO2 atmosphere? If CO2 seemingly persists in the atmosphere for hundreds of thousands of years, the ppm number will only go up, not down. I am curious and open to alternative interpretations. I'm still attempting to educate myself on the sciences. The plastic killing sealife thing was real, they simply stopped talking about it. Plastic is the nastiest thing.
"Global warming" is made up nonsense to distract people from real problems like plastic pollution. That, and it's an excuse to grab a lot of power and to lower the quality of life of the gentiles in increasingly humiliating ways.
