Yes they are. I have friends who have been off-grid for 20+ years and have never experienced a blackout. I myself have 40 acres that I manage completely off-grid. It is connected to no public utilities. It is not my primary residence and I fire the compound up and shut it down with very little work/maintenance. Simplicity to infrastructure systems are the key to maintaining said systems effectively.

Owning and maintaining a farm is time and money consuming. There´s no money in it. Only expenses. You will need to have a secondary source of income. I have passive income and occasional lawyer work. Which pays for it. But a farm is economically a loss.
Neither people should all live in wilderness. The dumbest thing I have heard is the idea people should all be preppers. They shouldn´t. Doctors, engineers. Society would stop working. Doctors leave your practice and stop healing people and become preppers. That would work great.
This is the difference between America and Europe. In Europe you're screwed because of geography and lack of land that is secluded enough and yes, if the power outage would have lasted two weeks you wouldn't have seen the kumbaya stories of "the stores will give people credit to buy food and they can pay them back later," you would have seen an unraveling of society that would have led to violence and chaos.
The outage could have lasted two weeks. And nothing would happen. In the first two weeks of August if you travel to Europe there´s maybe less services than in the blackout. Cause everybody is on holidays. It´s just like in a holiday.

I see a breakdown as a fast ticket to living in a slum. That´s it. You will live in a slum. What I fear is the lost of comfort my children deserve.
The basic fundamentals for a person to live are actually simple. You need food, water and medicine. All the rest are layers of comfort and convenience on top of it. If there´s a breakdown you lose comfort. That´s it. You pass from 1st world to 3rd world in 24h. And if there´s no organization you kill the one and replace it by another one. Leadership doesn´t disappear neither good and brave man. Power is never empty.
There´s enough natural fountains for people to walk and get water from. Everywhere there´s fountains. You know where there were water without queues? cemeteries.
There´s never chaos in Europe. Unless you are being invaded. Or the governments systematically sabotage the population. Which is now lightly happening. And new organizations and parties are emerging. Cause if the leader is bad. He is replaced. Power is dynamic.
The best place to be is 1st world countries. You don´t want to be in a shithole when the shtf. Unless there´s a war. I would proobably stay (depending on the reason if they say they will kill jews I will not fight them) but send family overseas.
Sure there is, but it's probably not going to go down like that. In Europe it might because there is no where to run (on the North American continent there is still plenty of open space), but a collapse will be gradual with major 911/European blackout type events coupled with smaller events of inconvenience like with Covid (no toilet paper, no eggs, lockdowns, etc.). It's not just going to go from hero to zero in our lifetime. It's just time to stop relying on others (government, etc.) for your fuel, electricity, food, and water and to start praying for the best while preparing for the worst. Prepping isn't about panicking in fear, it's about calmly and methodically taking your power back from globohomo world jewry by refusing to be a slave to (((their))) systems of financial usury (banking, electric grid, food production, etc.).
This is Hollywood/Netflix shit (sorry to say this since I generally apreciate your posts). You need to rely on others. Taking the power back is not abandoning the structures. It´s replacing the leaders in them with good men. Who will steer them to good directions.
There´s enough wilderness in Europe. You can go to a mountain and disappear. But who would want to live that way.

Apartments in the city are better than living outdoors close to nature?
They are 10000000x better. A farm is your life. It´s not your house. It´s what you do everyday. Not leaving space or time to do anything else. An apartment is just a place you go to sleep and your life is dedicated to other things. You are always outside the appartment.
Managing a farm is impossible without other incomes.
But I´m not the type to complain. The apartment is rented and it´s time to move back in. And the farm will be a backup. Which due to it´s costs I need to find a way to lower the costs or create more income.

Farms are indeed a lot of work. Think smaller. You only need enough food for one person (in my case) and 3 or 4 if you have a family. No need to have a "farm" just a large tract of wilderness land. Forests don't need to be maintained and work as a great barrier to intruders and the trees can also be harvested for fuel and building material. But again, this is a moot point in Europe so I understand your sentiment/predicament.

What´s the main difference? A building with several apartments any cost of maintenance is divided by 20/30 people who live in apartments. Just a simple villa the cost is totally on one family.
The maintenance is contracted to a company. In a farm you do everything.

Europe has plenty of wilderness. If not the same has percentage probably not far away than US. You just leave 20mnts outside a city and there´s miles and miles of forests.
What most people need is to recondition themselves to live simpler lives where less material pleasure becomes greater spiritual fulfillment. Most people don't want to do this because they are addicted to sense pleasures and their "ideas" about the world like "farms suck and are difficult to manage, plus it's boring out in the wilderness and besides it'll do you no good because inner city blacks will find you and when they attack your wilderness compound there will be no neighbors to help you, etc., etc., etc."... All solvable problems because they will most likely never come to fruition.
Material pleasure? We could go back living in caves. How about that? This is what I think when I hear environmentalists talking. Go live in a cave. Or when they say there´s too much construction. But they live in a city in a building.
It will not be blacks. If really things become bad. It will be your neigbhoor. The people who know more about you. Conflict happens due to lack of resources.
People shouldn´t abandon society and live in the wilderness. They need to get their act together and start participating in civil society. You need to have the equivalent of a government generator. If the government fails. A backup must start functioning.
