I have also been helped by a non religious couple too, actually went out to dinner with them last weekend, God uses anyone he wants to work through and they are now also in my daily prayers.Cheers to Purple Urkel for helping out a fellow forum member (GoodShepard). Another true Christian. Although I’m not religious I tip my hat to the people who have strong morals and always try to help others whatever their religion may be.
Want to give a shout out to @PurpleUrkel who came to see me all the way from another state to help out my family, thank you my friend, he is a very cool guy and reminded me of a red hot chilli peppers kind of guy. He helped us out a lot with our material needs, a very generous man, my children and wife received all their winter and summer clothes and shoes from @PurpleUrkel rkel my kids got bikes and fishing rods, we were helped with some business opportunities to make some extra money which we are still involved with and he even brought me a shotgun and some shellsI love this about America that people can just move around with guns and share them with their friends, I was also helped out with money that I was a little short on to go towards my rent that I JUST managed to pay by the skin of my teeth late last night an hour before the dead line
@purpleUrkel is a solid guy and each time I meet members from the forum in person I can say that we are surrounded by a good group of guys on here, I pray for you guys almost daily, the ones whom I have met in person and the ones whom Iv spoken to over the phone
I wont forget you.
There are good guys here on the forum, people we can count on, honest people who go the extra mile. @steadyhands yeah sure I will keep this thread updated as I go along, Iv met lots and lots of people in America and made many friends and I go to a really good church too, its so important for anyone who is a Christian and who is thinking of moving countries, make sure the place you want to move to has a church nearby, its essential, we are a community within a community.Wow. That's great to read!

First, I'm happy for you and your family @GoodShepherd - thanks for the info and do keep us updated on your epic journey. It seems that the help you have received is a reflection of the good spirit embodied by you and your family.
Second, it's great to have confirmation that another one of our very own members has shown himself to be a man of integrity and self-sacrifice.
This is a good reminder of the value of withholding judgement. Even if someone's writing may seem abrasive online, this does not necessarily reflect the content of their heart when it comes to connecting with and helping out others off-line. This reminder comes at a good time for me as well. And now...
A toast -- to the CIK Chad of Month:

Good story. A couple of years ago, when the covid scare officially began vanishing, and they replaced it with a new agenda, a war, we also moved from a “good” old Europe to the new world. Although, in my case, to the southern portion of the Americas.
With zero Spanish and no experience with South America whatsoever, the first weeks felt like being on a strange planet, with crazy night sounds from the jungle and the moon hovering upside down for no apparent reason. We also went through the most basic challenges, like how to use cellphones, showers, etc., and unlike in North America or the EU, here, everything humanly created, to some degree, is dysfunctional. It's a permanent state of almost all buildings, cars, and appliances. A perfectionists'hell.
But we also met great people here, who helped us a lot, Christians who truly love their neighbor.
Things that helped me most so far in this cultural and geographic transition were these:
Realization that no matter what's going around me, most of it is just a temporary noise. All news, talks, feelings, relationships, local economic or geopolitical situations are just happenings that could look important, but on a grand scale of history, they're just a small bump on the road. There is nothing new under the sun, as King Solomon said.
What matters are eternal things, because that is where we are heading. Being right with God is number one.
The good internal state of the self is superior to any external circumstance. If you are right in spirit and psyche, outside dramas won't touch you. Contemplating God's Word and reading quality philosophy, psychology, and history books daily is a must for renewing the mind.
From a material viewpoint, practicing minimalism is a useful habit to have.
If you can have a simple dinner with your family around and then peacefully sleep in bed with a roof above your head, you are doing well, and nothing else is really much needed.
Take care of your body every day. Make a habit of it. Walk wherever you can instead of driving, join a gym, or do martial arts. Find a simple hobby that makes you happy for a moment.
Be grateful for everything, judge nothing, demand nothing, expect nothing from the world, only from God, and appreciate all the time that was given to us here. Wish you well.

They can DM me, I dont want to share to much intimate detailed information, I still have that South African paranoia of looking over my shoulder and that everyone is watching, out to get meGuys here have asked about what sort of work you’re looking for and what experience you have, you never answered.
if you were a farmer in South Africa you might do well in the landscaping industry in the USA . Try to work for an existing landscaping company then eventually start on your own, you’d be setting up sprinkler systems, pulling weeds, mowing lawns etc
That’s assuming you were a farmer in South Africa and have this sort of background. I’m just taking a guess there
This is really good advice, roof over your head, simple dinner with the family, exercise, prayer, reading, if I can add to that is finding a good church to attend and making as many connections and friends as possible, what many immigrants do is they land up isolating themselves which isnt very good, mix with the people. Fortunately my first job I got here was doing deliveries so I really was out a lot and saw all the neighborhoods and areas around here, I was and still am in contact with a lot of people daily, I was forced to learn many new things, geographically I feel like I know the area, we would go out to the lake almost every weekend for the first two months, I went on a hike, this helped me to really examine the nature on the new world, Iv walked in the woods, made fires etc (not arsen fires like they do in California) but BBQ fires. I was told the story about moonshine from my friends and we sipped on some moonshine together I highly recommend you try some.Good story.
