GOP Thread

Amendments, sure, but the biggest problems are caused by all of those struck down by the Parliamentarian - it caused a $1 Trillion increase in spending. I think the house is just gonna have to swallow this crap sandwich because there's nothing else that can be done.

The parliamentarian who's appointed, and can be dismissed, by the Senate majority leader.

It's a good question why they kept the current parliamentarian. She's a Democrat, but she was also strict with her own party and blocked many proposals during Biden's term. I think they kept her so they could look unbiased. If they toss her out now after her ruling, then it creates backlash. I think the idea is to let her run out her term and then replace her with a Republican who will then get to serve in the next Democrat administration.

This seems to be a bad strategy, but they needed to replace her back in January to keep the illusion of impartiality. They won't do it now. At the end of the day, even the stuff she ruled against (like healthcare for illegals) isn't as big of a deal if we can deport them. There's also the chance to repeal those things in the future without going scorched earth with the Democrats.

For what it worth, the Senate does keep some kind of "bipartisanship" going, and the 60 vote rule holds across administrations. I don't like it, but it also has some value in stopping the excesses that happen during a Democrat term. It also plays into the long game: if Republicans can get 60 votes then it will become mandated and much harder to repeal than a mere 50 Democrat votes in a following term.

The problem, of course, is that voters have no long term thinking and are easily discouraged. If they don't get what they want immediately in 2 years, they'll stay home and Democrats will get in. However voters are fools, because they ensure Republicans will not want to get rid of the 60 vote rule since their voters are unreliable.

It's a vicious cycle and I see no way to break it unless Republican voters actually stop being babies and have strong turnout 100% of the time.

This is the reason the satanic elites have a conservative party in the west. People get frustrated that their healthcare is unaffordable and their countries are falling apart, so you bring out the clowns to point the finger at the imaginary bad guy. It isn't the ghetto hoodrats and third world immigrants sucking the system dry, according to the "conservatives" it is this made up demographic who "needs to work harder".
