And for context, Mike Johnson adopted his son when he was 24, and a newlywed, the boy was 14,

I guess the only strange part was that he was married so young(24 is a little young?)

Edit, he was a 24 year old, in law school, married and has a 14 year old adopted son, is that odd? Now that you mention it…

From the daily mail, “
The Louisiana Republican congressman first met James in 1996 while volunteering with Young Life, a Christian ministry catering to middle and high school teens.

The future speaker, then a 24-year-old law school student, became a mentor for the 14-year-old boy, a source close to the Speaker’s office said.”

Robert Lewis Dabney, the Chief of Staff of Stonewall Jackson, commented on the "conservatism" movement in 1897, a comment which has just as much applicability now as it did then:

"It may be inferred again that the present movement for women's rights will certainly prevail from the history of its only opponent: Northern conservatism. This is a party which never conserves anything. Its history has been that it demurs to each aggression of the progressive party, and aims to save its credit by a respectable amount of growling, but always acquiesces at last in the innovation. What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution; to be denounced and then adopted in its turn. American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward towards perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. . . . Its impotency is not hard, indeed, to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It intends to risk nothing serious for the sake of the truth, and has no idea of being guilty of the folly of martyrdom. It always when about to enter a protest very blandly informs the wild beast whose path it essays to stop, that its bark is worse than its bite, and that it only means to save its manners by enacting its decent role of resistance: The only practical purpose which it now serves in American politics is to give enough exercise to Radicalism to keep it in wind, and to prevent its becoming pursy and lazy, from having nothing to whip. No doubt, after a few years, when women's suffrage shall have become an accomplished fact, conservatism will tacitly admit it into its creed, and thenceforward plume itself upon its wise firmness in opposing with similar weapons the extreme of baby suffrage; and when that too shall have been won, it will be heard declaring that the integrity of the American Constitution requires at least the refusal of suffrage to asses. There it will assume, with great dignity, its final position."

Now everybody seems to wait until they are 30 to get married, when the wife's eggs are already dried up. That's because they start fornicating in their teens as soon as they can find someone to do it with.

Just a few decades ago, like when Johnson was 24, the average age of first marriage was much lower. Traditionally you waited for sex until you were married, so sooner was better.

Obviously the sexual revolution happened quite a while ago, but it took several decades for the age of first marriage to climb as high as it has.

I got married shortly before I turned 24.

I see some dislike what I posted. Average age for first marriage for men when Johnson got married was 26, and even that was up sharply from a few years earlier. So, it was not unusual for him to marry at that age. It seems obvious the age went up due to pre-marital sex. If a society is based on expecting virginity at marriage, people will find a way to afford married life and get hitched as soon as possible.

24 seems early to people who grew up with current marriage patterns, and don't realize how recently things were different.

The real concern about Mike Johnson is that he’s another Israel first stooge. The first thing on his agenda as house speaker is sending more money and arms to help Israel

It's kind of ironic that the Speaker of the House, who wields so much power as a legislator, who knows the evil of pornography first hand, doesn't have a way to use the power of his office to do something about it.

That he was married young is no big deal. He was blessed to have met his wife then and a youthful marriage is always ideal. But adopting a 14-year old kid? That boy is basically grown, usually when someone looks to adopt they adopt a young baby since the baby needs help the most.

Adoption is doing the Lord's work, but at 14 is one even adopting? And why would someone adopt when they are just newly married, would you really trust a young 14-year old strange boy around your young babies in the house, let alone that boy being Black?

Feels like there is more to the story not being told, such as this 14-year old being a family friend or something, or something else more sinister. But either for Good or Ill, the story as presented makes little sense.

The kid he adopted, his mom just died of cancer. It’s more like fostering than adoption

As bizarre as it comes across, I do not think there was anything foul here. Adoption has always been a Christian virtue, as all Christians themselves have been adopted into God's family.

Based on how he and his adopted son are being mocked for holding each other accountable through Covenant Eyes, the more I think he did a good thing in adopting him.

The problem is white people adopting black kids like they're a fashion accessory. Going out of your way to find a kid who will have trouble fitting in and bonding with your family, because you think it makes you look virtuous.

Putting this here as establishment GOP members were aware of this the entire time. And they haven't fought the imprisonment and sentencing of numerous "protestors" knowing the whole thing was a charade. The GOP has literally sat there and done nothing for three years knowing the DNC and Feds set all this up and have used it to go after and lockup conservatives.
