One difference between Canada and say, Brazil, since you brought it up, is that Canada is a whole lot less segregated. Sure there's Indian reservations (feathers, not dots) and there are some areas that have higher priced homes, etc...but in general from what I've seen the population is all mixed together, all walks of life, all incomes.
Situations like that will tend to boil over a lot faster than private, guarded neighborhoods that keep the classes separate.
If western leaders can't hold things together and keep the mask up, societies are about ready to come apart at the seams. Probably part of why Trudeau is stepping down, let off some steam, let people cool off a bit...
