Going back to the real estate discussion earlier, how much do you guys think fraud/scamming government programs has contributed to massive inflation of housing values?
For example, MSP values could easily be 2-3x market value with all of the extra money floating around from daycares and medical transportation....imagine if that's happening in the majority of major cities in America???

The increase in property taxes is certainly tied to all the scams that suck down taxpayer money.
I think we need a bit more of those starter homes like those ones from the Levittstowns I posted a few pages back. Those houses were spartan and simple but they were also expandable. I live in an area that's economically stable and I've been seeing lots of residential construction but it's pretty much only for luxury condos and apartments.

The misconception that medieval peasants were uneducated, illiterate, poor and lived more difficult lives is propaganda created by the French Revolution.

I think @Wutang brings up a really interesting concept that gets overlooked. When is the last time you saw a new housing development that wasn't mini mansions or luxury condos? When is the last time you saw a newer development of starter homes? I feel like every development I've seen the past decade if not more has been higher end stuff, nobody builds affordable starter homes anymore. My family owns property in a semi rural industrial type area and across the street from us they are building a subdivision of little mansions, mind you the whole town is factory workers and farmers.
There is a somewhat affluent area about an hour from metro detroit where you're pretty much in the middle of nowhere, most people who live there have very long commutes to work or just in general to do anything outside of the house, I knew someone who lived in the area and driving an hour just to go to a decent restaurant was completely normal for them.....keep in mind these are not country people by any means they are suburban/city people who just wanted a big house cheap. They built these subdivisions of extravagant houses the whole area is filled with them they are half price of what you would pay in metro detroit. So you moved out to the middle of nowhere to live in a subdivision 20ft away from your neighbor? If I'm moving to the middle of nowhere it better be for a giant plot of land where I can't see anyone from my mailbox but my horses, donkey and chickens. I know thats a different thing altogether but it's more to the point where the housing market is just very different now, if you don't want a mcmansion well then you're buying an old house because nobody builds starter homes anymore the developers wouldn't waste the land on it and they are inflated because it's all old inventory that hasn't been renewed.
You know now after typing that out and talking about inventory maybe FHA loans do contribute to it, that's a double edged sword there....

You can pick out particulars from our time period and ancient periods but if you are generally comparing diets to the average modern diet it's the average modern diet that is absurdly poor.
