DEI or sabotage ?
Faulty welds were found in under-construction and in-service warships (subs and carriers) in Newport News Shipbuilding, one of two nuclear shipyards in the US.

I'll say DEI here. A lot of conspiracy-related talk does get thrown around here but 9 times outta 10, I generally subscribe to Hanlon's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
Personal example: I was a sonar operator in the Royal Canadian Navy; while I was deployed with another ship to the Middle East for 8+ months, my old ship went in for a refit. When I returned to Canada, I learned that our Sonobuoy Processing System was inoperable because the civvy dockyard workers had installed the receiver array upside-down. Now this wasn't a structural issue like the story above but it did significantly harm our tactical capabilities to conduct ASW operations. It took forever to fix due to the pissing contest over who was at fault.
Sometimes, people are just that stupid/incompetent.
