With over 90% of votes counted, Trump is winning Michigan by a larger margin than Harris won New Jersey. The big story of the night is Trump getting reelected while winning probably all 7 swing states, but if you look beyond the 7 core swing states, Democrats got annihilated in states they should have won easily. That is what truly bodes catastrophe for the Democrats moving forward. With over 90% counted, Harris only won Illinois by eight points. Harris only won New Jersey by 5 points, Connecticut by 9 points, and New York by 11. States where the Democrats have had hopes and thought they had a chance - Florida, Texas, Iowa, Ohio - are now more decisively Republican than New York is for the Democrats. I mean, with only 5 points in New Jersey, for example, you would actually have to downgrade that state from "Safe Democrat" all the way down to just "lean Democrat" or even just call it a swing state almost. A whole series of formerly safe Democrat states are now in the category of Virginia, New Hampshire, etc.; Harris still won them but man, if I were a Democrat strategist I would view this as a catastrophe.
