Janet Yellen should be more concerned with military industrial capacity than the ability to print infinite money. The US lags far behind Russia and China, and no amount of money can change that.

Wasn't sure where to post this, and I didn't want to start a Roman Catholic thread, since I'm not Roman Catholic. I just heard about this today. Anyone have more insight into this?

Start at 2:00, if you don't want to watch the whole thing, and read the subtitles. It is obvious what they are saying, and even I am shocked.

That is not the last of it. Did anyone else know about this? I haven't been to the Colosseum in decades, so I can't verify it. The Italian govt needs to answer to this. This is unacceptable and a slap in the face of the Christians who were martyred there.

It isn't there now. As for the Pope, he is a heretic and an anti-christ figure (one of many). True Apostolic Catholics do not follow him. I will keep more Catholic-esque talks for the future subforum. His words are fouler than he looks, but they won't be the last blasphemies to escape his lips, though I pray otherwise.

Come on, these are just some lazy 'gotchas' rehashed mostly by anti-Catholic protestants, over and over again. They can be easily verified if you spend one minute on Google.
The 'lucifer' in the chant is not invoking or addressing Satan, clearly. It's taken from the Easter liturgy and it's about Morning Start or... Jesus Christ! Just because one of Satan's names is also Lucifer it doesn't mean the same phrase - which could be translated to light bearer or Morning Start - cannot be used in a different context.

English:

Therefore, O Lord,
we pray you that this candle,
hallowed to the honor of your name,
may persevere undimmed,
to overcome the darkness of this night.

Receive it as a pleasing fragrance,
and let it mingle with the lights of heaven.

May this flame be found still burning
by the Morning Star:
the one Morning Star who never sets,
Christ your Son,
who, coming back from death's domain,
has shed his peaceful light on humanity,
and lives and reigns for ever and ever.

and in Latin:

Oramus ergo te, Domine,
ut cereus iste in honorem tui nominis consecratus,
ad noctis huius caliginem destruendam,
indeficiens perseveret.

Et in odorem suavitatis acceptus,
supernis luminaribus misceatur.

Flammas eius lucifer matutinus inveniat:
Ille, inquam, lucifer, qui nescit occasum:
Christus Filius tuus,
qui, regressus ab inferis, humano generi serenus illuxit,
et vivit et regnat in sæcula sæculorum.

The guy in the video is saying many stupid or ignorant things too. Pope Francis isn't claiming that you shouldn't have a relationship with Jesus but rather that you can't have a personal relationship without the guidance of the Church. It's an obvious jab at protestants who insists (some at least) that it's all that matters.

And the picture of the pope is clearly photoshopped.

Yes I think you are correct. I was looking into this a few days ago and it seemed innocuous, like a word fallacy from ancient Latin which can have different connotations in English, a younger language.

I thought of the analogy of using the word "angel" or messenger, which could refer to a holy being but also could refer to a fallen angel or demon. So the context is very important.

The only other question would be if the chant is being used outside of the Easter liturgy in a different context which I don't know the answer to. And if so, why.

I know I am correct as I sang this prayer myself at Easter ;)
The misconception comes from the fact that Lucifer (the name for Satan) isn't really found in the Bible until later translations and some say it's been incorrectly applied but somehow it stuck. For centuries, Lucifer meant Jesus Christ - there is even a saint with that name! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer_of_Cagliari

I am not aware of phrase 'lucifer' being used elsewhere but the prayer in question is part of Exsultet (Easter Proclamation) and it's been a part of Easter Mass since 4th-5th century.

Vladimir Putin has given a short, but wide-ranging and masterful interview to the Chinese broadcaster CGTN. He discusses the growing relationship between China and Russia, the diversification of trading, the joint infrastructure projects including pipelines and power stations, and the Belt and Road initiative.

Also covered is his warm relationship with President Xi Jinping (they have met over forty times), their long-term vision for world multipolar development, criticisms of Western colonial policymaking and the 'rules based order' hoax.

Finally, Putin gives the Chinese audience his historical account of the expansion of Nato, how the West broke their verbal promises and treaty commitments repeatedly, and the events that have led up to the war in Ukraine.

Western Proxies in West Africa have been to told to stand down and return to base. This may be a result of the GAE military focus shifting to the Middle East. The small group of top American strategic planners have been getting overwhelmed with the information flow from the multiple fronts that are developing.
