How-to & Troubleshooting Thread

I'm on my phone, but using desktop mode (or mobile) and it's not showing up.

I tried on my phone just now and I get the same thing. I did a search on how to create a poll with Xenforo from the phone, and it shows it being the same as the desktop. Some quirk is preventing it from working.

Will you have access to a desktop or laptop later?

I can’t access this site on pc, but can on my phone. I’m using the pc in a Burger King but I can access other sites there so I’m not sure what the issue is.

It could be because their internet service provider (ISP) or parental controls are blocking access on the WiFi; and/or due to the security protocols of your PC's browser or antivirus software.

Some related tips can be found here: Why does my WiFi block certain sites?

I can imagine that the blocking of CiK may have something to do with the thousands of posts here about J&J (joggers and juice).

What's that, you said?

Yes Sir, no doubt! Your contributions don't go unnoticed. Thank you for your service.

P.S. Speaking of Burger King, I spotted someone there who you may like to meet.

The search function seems to have been amended. Is this a deliberate change or did it come up with some software updates?

Before there was an option to do a quick search, and use dates in the advanced search function. Both were useful and are gone now.

You can do a quick search in the Advanced search window. Just put in a key word and click search same as before.

The advantage with the change is that a search for a word like Russia will also find posts with things like Russians, and Russia's, which it couldn't before. Before it would find Russia only, and would miss Russians because of the extra s.

A lot of people were searching for terms and not finding them because it only found whole, exact words.

That's a big improvement!

One of the things that was useful before was being able to focus a search within the current thread, which it appears can not be done now.

Is it possible to restore this excellent function?

Yes, exactly. Why not keep both the quick search option and the advanced search available? Users can switch to the advanced search if they feel the quick search isn’t comprehensive enough. On the other hand, if the quick search already meets their needs, there’s no reason to force them to use the more complex advanced search.

Yes, this is what I thought as well. With the quick search, we could set parameters to search for all posts by a particular member within a specific thread. For example, we could use the quick search to look only within the crypto thread and filter for posts by Scorpion or Blade Runner. Now we can’t do these simple but very useful things anymore.

The advanced search is the same as the quick search if you don't add any additional search terms.

In other words, you don't have to do anything to make the advanced search the same as the quick. It takes extra effort to make them different, but it works fine if you just do it the easiest way.

But the problem is that the advanced search cannot simply search for posts by a specific member within a specific thread. For example, if I want to find all posts by Scorpion or Blade Runner only in the Bitcoin and Crypto thread, I could easily do that with the old quick search.

Now, with the advanced search, searching within a single thread is no longer possible. The closest we can get is searching within an entire subforum—for instance, looking for Scorpion’s or Blade Runner’s posts in the Work & Finance subforum. While this will indeed include their posts from the Bitcoin and Crypto thread, it will also include posts from outside that thread, returning more results than needed. This makes the search less precise than before.
