There is already an implementation of digital ID in America, run by a private corporation ID.me, which is even worse than the government. One has to give all their info to a private corporation, very crooked and unprofessional too, already caught mishandling data, just so that they could access government services they had paid into and entitled to (IRS verification, IRS account, unemployment compensation) they act as a gatekeeper just because they had bribed the right people. When ID.me started to monopolize access to these services this is when I knew I was finally done. I'm hoping that by the time I can draw my earned retirement something either topples this Id.me beast or in-person government verification option is still available.
I realize I will not have privacy almost anywhere in the world, but Israel-supporting, unelected, private corporate entities run by literal goblins brazenly invading my privacy, blocking my access to services by the elected government and requiring humiliation rituals (video selfies, etc): this is where I draw a line.
