US Border Crisis

Where are you guys gathering this concept that Indians own "most" hotels? Motels sure because they are crackhead disaster dumps but the only hotels that Indians own save for some outliers and special circumstances are ones that no real businessman would waste his time dealing with....

The federal government may be dumb and easy to scam but hotel chains absolutely are not, they are not giving out control of their flags to Indians. Getting approval from a hotel chain to take over one of their flags is one of the most stringent things you can do in the business world. They would rather shut the place down then let someone take over who wouldn't run it properly, it's not even a matter of money you could offer to pay it cash and they'll still tell you to go fly a kite. If an Indian did slip through the cracks and ran it like an Indian they would take that flag away before he even had a chance to bobble his head at them....

Seriously? From DuckDuckGo

Indian Americans, particularly those from Gujarat (many with the surname Patel), own a significant portion of U.S. hotels and motels, with estimates suggesting they own around half of all motels and potentially up to 40-60% of all U.S. hotels, dominating the economy and budget segments and increasingly owning major franchises like Hilton and Marriott. This success story began with Gujarati immigrants in the mid-20th century, leading to a massive ethnic enterprise.
Key Statistics & Facts:
Overall Hotel Ownership: Indian Americans own roughly half of the nation's motels and a significant chunk (around 40-60%) of all U.S. hotels, according to sources like Avana Capital and Bloomberg.com.
Motel Dominance: They own a substantial majority (estimates range from 60% to over 80%) of motels, especially in smaller towns, notes this NPR article and the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA).
The "Patel" Connection: Many owners, especially from Gujarat, share the surname Patel, with estimates suggesting Patels alone own about one-third of all motels.
Growth Beyond Motels: While starting with economy motels (like Days Inns, Super 8s), Indian-American owners now also operate full-service hotels and major chains (Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton).
Historical Context:
The trend began with Gujarati immigrant Kanjibhai Manchhu Desai buying a motel in California in the 1940s, inspiring others from Gujarat to follow, especially after immigration laws changed in the 1960s, notes Bloomberg.com and NPR.

Okay I guess far be it from me to argue with something on the internet but if you read it over I'm correct that they own only dumps because nobody else wants to deal with them "economy and budget segments", the commentary about decent hotels is anecdotal.

A large portion of my family tree is in the hotel business, not motels, and I don't think any of them have ever transacted a hotel with an indian with the exception of one we owned without a flag and was an extenuating circumstance. Believe me I would know if they did not only because my dad is involved but because they would crack jokes about having to deal with an indian the way they do for that one we sold....

Even if they don't actually own them, I think a lot of hotels end up hiring Pajeet and his family to live onsite and run the hotel. The effect on quality is the same.

If you said "motels" I would agree 100% but not hotels, it doesn't work that way with hotels and nobody is hiring Indians but other Indians....who own $40 a night dumps with weekly rates not hotels with real flags.

I don't care for Indians in fact I'm not ashamed to say everything about them disgusts me but if you're going to take a stand on something at least let it have merit. I wouldn't wish motel ownership on my worst enemy, these guys own crack dens because no other business man in his right mind would ever deal with that other than them, they're not rolling in dough by owning a motel they just have much much lower standards for quality of life than you or I do.

In my experience, the rural motels and small hotels are where the problems lie.

Yes, it's not just dumpy motels and hotels indians will gladly snatch up any business where the labor costs would be prohibitive to run it because they have no concept of quality of life. Indians are more than willing to spend the rest of their lives working open to close seven days a week and they have no qualms about dealing with the lowest tier of humans because they are just as low, that's normal to them.

If I told you leave everything behind and move out to the middle of nowhere to own a motel where you have to deal with the dregs of society all day long and you have to work all the hours yourself to make probably 50-80k a year you would probably laugh in my face and tell me to kick rocks. You tell a guy from india that he would kiss your feet and thank you.

Around here in Michigan the indians have taken over pretty much every low barrier to entry business because nobody else wants them, the pizza place they bought just for the price of equipment and taking over the lease, the smoke shop they bought just for the cost of inventory, the gas station that barely sustains itself and is open 24 hours, the liquor store in the hood that the previous owner just had enough dealing with the ghetto.....etc etc. All the businesses that nobody else wanted to waste their time with they jump in head first, they often fail because an indian guy runs a business like he's catering to indians in india but that doesn't stop them from trying. There is this concept that if you lose one customer a week in a small business in time you have no customers left, this is something they don't understand they will just keep trying to scam and offer garbage service to every customer smiling that they got over on someone. This works in the hood because the hood rats have no choice there is nowhere else to go even if they could get there but it doesn't work in normal neighborhoods, normal people will just stop giving you their business.

You or I would have no interest in any of these businesses.

One of our close family friends pretty much an older brother to me owns a shopping center and an indian guy had a smoke shop in there, it's actually just a couple miles from my warehouse and my dad asked if I wanted to take over just put some employees in there and administer it, it would be easy being so close and we have family with smoke shop warehouses so I could get everything at cost and consignment. I told him "Dad if an indian guy couldn't squeeze a few dollars out of the place how the hell am I going to make any money", I think it was the first time my dad ever agreed with me on anything haha. There is an iconic pizza place here in Michigan I guess they started franchising, there is a shopping center down the street from my house that had a pizza place close and someone opened up one of the franchises in there. I was happy to see it because the original one is far away and they have great old school style pizza, turned out the people who opened it were indian it was probably one of the worst pizzas i've ever had in my life I think they purposely used the cheapest ingredient they could possibly find for everything and it tasted like it, not to mention that the guys in there running it barely spoke english and looked like they hadn't bathed in a month. Even with their iconic name they lasted all of 6 months before closing, people in my neighborhood were not going to put up with that. I've already told the story about the indians that bought our family hotel on the water in a small up north resort town, total disaster really sad story. I could go on and on.....

The only point I'm making here is that this isn't necessarily a "problem", there are more problems with indians than I can even name and if you just want to hate on indians please by all means don't let me stop you! If it was a normie on the street telling me this stuff I would just say "yep indians are a problem" but here where I feel like we have a higher level of thinking to fixate on this issue specifically doesn't really have any validity as a "problem". The issue of indians stealing college degree jobs by simply willing to take them for a lower pay and then turning the whole company into indians is a massive problem because for a very long time Americans were told that college was the only way to be successful, I never agreed with that but many went for it and now they find themselves in a bad spot. That is a massive problem and honestly it's more of a problem with the companies doing it, indians taking over crappy businesses because nobody else wants them is so much lower on the spectrum it doesn't even register, let them keep shooting themselves in the foot.

It's also financially incentivized by the govt with low / zero interest loans, loan forgiveness programs, and outright cash grants for immigrant business owners. Which also cements their legal residency status and allows them to bring over the whole family (for cheap/free labor too). So even a failing business in a podunk town is an objectively great opportunity for them.

I've seen this mentioned a lot here, this is stuff from the SBA targeted specifically to new immigrants? Or is this stuff from NGO's?
