Petro is first and foremost a seasoned Marxist who spend most of his 20s and 30s in service of M-19, a Colombian type of proto Antifa. M-19 was a far left Cuba sponsored rebel group primarily made up of young urban kids from affluent families - opposed to ELN and FARC which consisted of impoverished campesinos and had links to the USSR (ELN Cuba too). M-19 participated in armed rebellion until the 1990 peace deal.
In less catchy terms that means Petro and gang were responsible for bomb attacks, targeted assassinations, hostage takings, violence and intimidation of those opposed to their ideology, kidnappings, extortion, human trafficking, drug trafficking and all others sorts of crimes and abuses.
