It's weird that this is an indirect charge. Under him, the FBI basically committed treason, and yet they don't charge him for the actual act. They charge him for lying about it years later.
I don't understand why they don't arrest everybody involved with that whole business. I think the guilt spreads so far through the circles of power that they feel they just can't go there. The fact this is true makes me want a full purge that much more.
I think it's easier to get him for perjury - he's on tape lying to the Congress. Proving treason might be more difficult.
A full purge would be extraordinary. Typically, the ruling class just sheds some dead weight when resources get tight.

Investigate their donors, employees, volunteers, infiltrate and disrupt their communication networks and finances. Utilize the DOJ in targeting, dismantling and destroying the organization and all affiliates and associates. Great premise to start looking at judges and attorneys as well.

Heh I read that. He had an aol email account and essentially used it as a notebook or journal as l for all of his day to day top secret clandestine activities/notes. This is of course a major security risk, and crime.
