What's the story on this? I understand he is doing this to prevent impeachment, but are the charges that would be brought against him justified, or bogus? Apparently the Army backs him politically, or they wouldn't go along with this declaration.

Hard to find good information about what's going on.

The parliament just voted 190-0 to lift martial law. Not sure if that does much, since it appears that the military commander is allied with the president.

Would not be surprised if the CIA is involved on one side or another. South Korea is basically a vassal of the US, which means that either Yoon or parliament is acting with some level of US knowledge or approval. US has been heavily pushing woke/LGBT propaganda in South Korea over the last few years.

I've seen speculation that Yoon was pushing back, there was some kind of soft coup by US-influenced parliament, and Yoon is attempting to wrest control back.

I haven't taken the time to read it all the way through, but the media as a general concept has discredited itself long ago. at this point, if your government isn't actively working to destroy and replace you, it's a net benefit for it to seize total control of the press apparatus and steer it to promote ideas of normalcy, common sense and local traditions.

Interesting explanation.

Well that escalated quickly....to then then suddenly turn into a big nothingburger.
Final score from me is 2 out of 10.

If you're going to stage a phoney amateur military takeover with unloaded guns and cheesy asian politicians, at least put in some k-pop girls or something to make it a bit more entertaining,

Declares martial law, suspends commie parliament. Suspended parliament impeaches. Withdraws troops. All this in a few hours?

As @Ember posted, there is a long and cherished coup tradition in S. Korea, often with folk stories of missing treasure (did he even raid the national crypto wallet?).

When Seoul hosted the '88 summer Olympics, it was hailed as a victory for rising democracies above the sordid strongman history of Asia. One old school S. Korean President had even dropped paratroopers on rioters IIRC!

Fast forward to 2024, we get the weakest coup of all time and what is probably the gayest parliament of all time also. Ancestor cry.

Gayest coup ever. Declares martial law, takes over all critical infrastructure, gets the Army bigwigs on his side and then calls the whole thing off because the Parliament he is meant to coup voted against it.

Twenty wild minutes followed by a walk of shame.

He should've gone for TRT before making a mockery of himself.

[Colonel] MacGregor covers the [current] situation in [South Korea] in the first half of this video:

MacGregor alleges that western (globohomo) forces are behind the attempted coup.
I'm not sure if he's right, but he certainly makes a lot of good points about Korea being a puppet state of the US, and the recent claims of North Korean troops in Ukraine may be a US psyop to involve South Korea more directly in the Ukraine war.
