Did anybody on the US or Canadian West Coast hear about the tsunami warning yesterday?

An 8.8 magnitude undersea quake hit off of Petropavlovsk on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, around 1630 PDT / 2330 UTC. It was followed by a series of smaller quakes of about 5.5 magnitude.

It resulted in tsunami warnings / advisories for Hawaii, the Aleutians and pretty much all of coastal BC, WA, OR, and CA. I got the tsunami advisory on my phone about an hour after the initial 8.8.

Being that Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy is across the harbour from Rybachiy, the Russian Pacific Fleet's nuclear submarine base, anybody wonder if this quake could have been (((American))) made? (IF you want to go down that rabbit-hole)

Winter came to the Midwest.

I'll stopped many times at that truck stop near Davenport, and I've driven I-80 in snow conditions like this. I even hit black ice and spun off the road about 30 miles past that truck stop, but my truck came to a stop in the snow with no damage, and my four wheel drive let me pull right back on the road and continue on.

I've driven that stretch and seen literally 1000 vehicles in the ditch or the grassy median, spread along 100 miles of interstate. I was once driving there, going about 30 mph on the snowy surface, and the car in front of me slowly and gently started slipping sideways and went off in the ditch. We decided to stop and get a room after seeing that, but in fact it turned out the road was closed at the next exit, so we would have been forced to stop even if we hadn't already decided to do so.

Fun times!
