Ya know....I always hated the cold here in Michigan.

Maybe it ain't so bad!
People complain the Midwest is boring and it kind of is. The summer is too hot and the winter is too cold. But we're the safest part of the country when it comes to natural disasters.

Sure, we will get some tornadoes, snowstorms, or flooding. But nothing ever happens here like these wildfires or the hurricane that hit the Carolinas.

I’m here now. It has its charms but it’s very poor - depending on where you are of course - Ann Arbor and Columbus are rich but a lot of the region is poor. Drugs are bad and a lot of property crime. Many of the cities are flat out dangerous. I’d rather live out west or in the southeast personally. Gals are all fat too. And I’m not talking chubby, they’re bad.

Quality of life in the Midwest actually had me considering overseas because it already gets kind of third worldy in parts of Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. There’s even the term Ohio Rizz… it’s not a good thing.

Ann Arbor is trash brother every college town is, it's got a few novelty frills around campus but other than that it's a dumpy town and the people are garbage. Oakland County Michigan is one of the wealthiest counties in the country not sure if it's still at #1. Where are you spending time at that you considered Ann Arbor and Columbus "Rich"?

West Virginia and Pennsylvania are definitely not part of the Midwest, Ohio is its easternmost state and in its southeastern corner transitions to Appalachia. I think that's the part you find "third world".

You're right about the obesity being a huge problem here though, that's one of the biggest downsides. It's much less of a problem in the wealthier towns and suburbs, and extremely bad in poor, small towns or in the hood.

And there are plenty of safe neighborhoods too. Quality of life is good if you can score a decent job because everything is affordable, including housing. Even Chicago is more affordable than the big coastal cities. Sometimes I think about moving out West live near the mountains, or to the Southeast so I can meet a nice Southern belle. But overall I can't complain about where I am.

I live on the eastern edge of the Midwest I guess then and going into Appalachia. Probably where my biases are rooted. But Kansas City, St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, and Minneapolis are some of the most dangerous cities in the country. They’re worse than Chicago despite Chicago’s bad reputation. I’ll give you that though, for a world class city Chicago is very affordable and the lake makes you feel less landlocked.

Ann Arbor - one of those places I’ve driven through but didn’t hang out in. It seemed nice and up kept. This indicates the people have money. Many places the walkable downtown buildings are left to rot because nobody has money for upkeep. You see this where I am. Salaries are low here too but housing is cheap so it’s a catch 22. They’re much higher in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor also got ranked the 4th best place to live in the country.

As for Columbus, I know it better haha. Every time I’ve been there everything seems newer and more put together than Cleveland, Dayton, or Cincinnati. The infrastructure is way better and people can’t stop moving there. If it was trash why can everyone not wait to move to Columbus? Out of all the cities in the region, it’s the fastest growing. Also with its local scene and everything it seems like is trying to be Austin of the prairie. Every time I visited and talked to people it seems like some new major company is moving there from the declining coasts. Columbus is trash is kind of surprising considering it’s surrounded by places like Cincinnati, Youngstown, Cleveland, Dayton, etc. It’s also got some very nice suburbs too if downtown living isn’t your thing. But there’s a lot of competition for housing there so it’s going to be a bit more expensive than getting a place in say Cincinnati.
