Metal/Hard Rock Thread

Too bad Tuomas is not only an atheist now but actually got super big into the whole militant New Atheist thing. He had Richard Dawkins do some spoken word parts on the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album.
He invited Dawkins to speak at a closure of the one of Nightwish's biggest shows - concert at Wembley Arena in London. Although, Dawkins has't said anything blasphemous there, just nonsense (concert's up on YouTube, on the band's official channel - anyone can easily find the record). Perhaps it's ironic that Finnish music savant is getting into "A+" movement right as it is dying out. But that's a morbid kind of irony.

I saw Killswitch with the original singer in a dive bar in Jacksonville NC. Badass show.

Bassist was out in the audience jamming and taking shots mid song. Pretty entertaining.
At Hooligans? I saw Five Finger Death Punch there. Young Marines really know how to do a mosh pit!

Poasting some MaYaN, Epica's less-known siblings. By sibligns, I mean that's another band by Mark Jansen and many people from After Forever and Epica had been involved in this band, too, although by now it has own distinct style.

Decidedly un-Satanic, albeit, as expected from Death Metal, it does glorify the idea of opposing evil with equal violence, all the way up to justifying terrorism.

Just searched "Christ is King" on youtube and this one popped up.

Christ is King | Punishment by Impending Doom

Looks like they are both from an up coming album. A little heavy for my taste, but the message us on point. What do you guys think?

*Edited because I had trouble embedding the vid at first

I don't think the beauty and simplicity of the forum allows for cross-posting a single post into two different threads, but this regards "Degradation of Music" and "Secular Songs with Religious Themes".

Nightwish actually wrote a hymn dedicated to Christ (mentioned earlier in this thread). This is from their first album, Angels Fall First, written before Tuomas lost his faith, but, being a first album, it's a bit of a rough diamond.

How many of you metal fans watched the “Back to the Beginning” concert back in July? I’ve watched the whole show 2x and found it a very entertaining and emotional show. It was especially fun to rank the performances of all the amazing individual musicians. Stephen Tyler was amazing. Nuno Bettencourt was playing guitar on a whole other tier 1 level compared to all of the guitarists that took the stage that day. I could go on and on talking about it but figured to just mention it and see what others thought.

I was disappointed Megadeth didn't get an opportunity to my play.

They're the best of the Big 4 in Thrash many times over...

But then again Dave Mustaine might try and take credit for Paranoid.

Does this count for heavy metal?

I always loved Pantera along with the other usual bands everyone's posted so far. The best thing about their music is that they often let Dimebag's guitar solo fly without a rhythm guitar, so you really hear those bass and drums support every note of his solos. Rex had such a big fat bass tone.

Not all of their songs are all too Christian, I know. I just skip any songs that are overtly anti-Christian from any artist I listen to. Havok has a lot of songs where they sing the usual "nonconformist" lyrics that are basically conformist if you wanna project the typical metal image. I skip some of their songs, but I can't help but enjoy others. This gem in particular always get me motivated to do as many pull ups as I can:

This song also got me re-inspired to pick my bass back up when I first heard it:

Ha! In my preview before posting this, I see that jewtube has age restricted one of these videos. There's nothing even edgy or inappropriate about it. Unless you love government surveillance, I guess....

It's 5 o'clock PM Austin, TX And this is Johnny Walker coming to you live on KLBJ-FM with some Bone Crusher.....

Not exactly Heavy Metal, but a hard driving rock song none-the-less. Always enjoyed hearing it back then.

I've seen all the Big 4 live back in the day, including Megadeth and Slayer twice. I love Megadeth and they have some incredible songwriting, but they are not a good live band. Easily the weakest of the Big 4 in that regard. "Holy Wars" and "Peace Sells" are still two of the greatest songs ever written.

I saw them live and had the opposite experience. Metallica was like a pop show. And they lost mic during One in the middle of the drum double kick famous riff. Atmosphere was great but Megadeth was just better mic'd and the musicianship was better.

Recently Testament with Chuck Hogan is incredible and the old Slayer back when Dave Lombardo was probably the king. That said I'm younger so can't speak to shows 20 years ago.

Thought I did see GWAR in 2008 with the original line up and it was my first metal show and probably one of the most fun and fucked up shows ever.

I saw Metallica in 2010 and they were really great, bucket list experience for sure. Maybe it's not the same anymore.

I agree though that Slayer and Testament also killed it at their shows back in the day.
