Lounge of The Russian-Ukrainian War

“...The two leaders shared the view that Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel...”

Well, this is the easiest of concessions for Putin to give in order to make Trump happy.

"I get Ukraine, you get to please your zionist overlords".

He's throwing Trump a bone, because he hasn't made any real concessions, while Trump cut off the weapons and intel spigot to Ukraine, even as a temporary move that was a powerful signal. Trump is also going to concede current territorial annexations, demilitarization and neutrality/no NATO for Ukraine, those are most of Putin's demands for a settlement. I would imagine that the return of seized Russian assets is another demand that Trump will comply with.

As to the 30 day ceasefire, Russia bombs Ukrainian energy infrastructure in large salvoes every few weeks as it is, and they had their last big wave only last week (see below). They're going to keep building up their missile inventory in those 30 days, and of course if Ukraine drones Russia proper, the Russians will be sure to break that ceasefire.

One thing's for sure, the NAFO crowd is furious at this:

What exactly did Ukrainians hope to achieve. Looks like despair to me

Those are mainly PR-driven military campaigns, the goal is maintain their sagging morale, even at a great cost. The last ill-taken military incursion into Kursk cost the Ukrainian 70,000 casualties and over 350 tanks, including some of their best troops and materiel. They got some bragging rights for a month or two in return. Not a sustainable strategy in this war of attrition though, hence Trump's lucid attempts at closing this file before the Ukrainian military dam breaks.

Trump will learn, embarrassingly, that he can't control Ukraine .mil decisions. He can only control resources provided. A guy has to start somewhere. Zelensky and Trump should be at even more odds now.

Putin will learn the same thing, and as such, he can't trust a "command decision" made by the prime benefactor. It was worth a try. That's it. He's been down this road.

Perhaps Putin's intent was simply to demonstrate to Trump the unruly nature of the/any Ukraine relationship.

The war will continue to its logical conclusion.

Kremlin statement doesn’t mention Israel or Iran.

Who is lying? And why?

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump also addressed some other international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and in the Red Sea region. Joint efforts will be made to stabilise the situation in the crisis spots and establish cooperation on nuclear non-proliferation and global security.
