Not my presentation. My point is if you just stick to a firm stance without at times doing a revaluation due to new evidence, it can lead to positions becoming more entrenched and more extreme. But it seems like that doesn’t matter to some? Is pure obedience and subservience to certain rules what the church declares?

I don't have to do that when my faith is 2 millennia old, I have Church Fathers, and a vibrant community of belief that has allowed for a combination of mystery on some topics, while giving clear guidelines on others.
Yes some things do require pure obedience... Like I dunno: though shall not kill an innocent life or though shall not blaspheme. These aren't exactly up for interpretation... Repentance is the cure for that...
