Destabilization of US Cities: Crime, Homelessness, Liberalism

That list is good except for the college part. It can work out when done right, but it's mostly a scam. Communist politics, overpriced, takes too long, useless classes. Most skills are learned on the job and shouldn't even require some pointless degree in the first place.

At this point we're just enabling an outdated, inefficient system.

Looters in California continue to impersonate firefighters. This crew even had a fire truck.

Two Individuals from Oregon Arrested for Impersonating Firefighters within Palisades Fire
On Saturday, January 18, 2025, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigators were contacted regarding an arrest of two suspects for impersonation of firefighters. An LAPD patrol unit was driving through the Palisades Fire area with fire personnel and observed a fire truck that did not appear to be legitimate. They relayed the information, and Sheriff’s deputies contacted the individuals in the fire truck as they attempted to enter an evacuation zone.Upon contacting the two occupants of the truck, deputies noticed they were both wearing turnout gear. The occupants claimed to be from “Roaring River Fire Department” in Oregon.
Upon further investigation, the deputies learned that the department name was not a legitimate agency, and the truck was purchased at an auction. The two occupants were wearing CAL-Fire t-shirts under the turnout gear, helmet, and radios.
The two admitted to being in the evacuation zone on Friday, January 17, 2025. Deputies arrested Dustin Nehl, 31, and Jennifer Nehl, 44, for Impersonating a Firefighter and Entering an evacuation zone, and the truck was impounded.

Got another report. This time it involves me personally.

I was at my public speaking club's meeting last night. A guy comes in moving with a purpose towards the only open booth, just a few minutes late. He was wearing a hoodie so a lot of us figured he was just a late drop in that new somebody. At the last moment he instead sucker punches a guy at the end row and is promptly cornered by myself and the other veteran who were present. The guy is rambling incoherently and eventually makes a move. The other veteran guy was sitting closer when it happened and is up front, and the tweaker got taken down by the two of us with fortunately relative ease. I managed to sneak in a check of his belt line while we were grappling him and he didn't have any knife clipped in fortunately. I did notice the guy was heavily tattooed in what seemed like gang tatoos, although I didn't recognize any of them and neither did one of the other members who does a lot of mental health work (and is familiar with most of the local gangs).

Nobody knows who this guy was. It was just a random tweaker off the street who had been seen near the building before and then apparently came back.

Thankfully everyone is fine, but there's a few improves I wrote down.

1- Situational awareness. I'd let my guard down because this is in the back room of a restaurant (so anyone coming in would have to go past the staff normally) and was texting my wife about a sick kid. I'm not sure if it would have helped prevent it but it would have bought a second or two faster reaction time.

2- My sneakers didn't have a lot of tread on the smooth floor, which would have made it difficult for me to throw full force punches if I'd had to engage stand up. I'm a basic, but not particularly advanced grappler. I have some boxing experience and hit extremely hard, so my fighting style depends on being able to do enough damage to wear an opponent down. You can't deliver those kinds of blows unless you can drive from the core, and you can't do that in turn without good foot contact.

3- I wasn't carrying my primary because it's too large to easily conceal carry. This will be rectified hopefully within 48 hours from now.

4- I also didn't have any non-lethal escalation options. This one's important because my only way to escalate would have been to pull out my pocket knife (I keep a small combat knife as a pocket knife) which would have escalated the situation to lethal stakes. The guy hadn't used a weapon and wasn't reaching for one (and I had another guy in front of me) so I opted not to. It was the right call this time but very easily could have not been.

For point #4, I think the best option is going to be to pick up some Tazer knuckles. They're compact, lean into an existing strength, and are something I can employ without requiring any additional training.
