Christian Memes Thread

The Catholic Church came out with a new cartoon mascot this past week, Luce.

I'm unsure what I think about this. I guess it depends what messages the church makes with her. The first few that popped up on Twitter seem cute and wholesome. However, now the internet has gotten hold of the idea and is running with it.

Ha! I went and found her twitter account. Turns out she is a Phd student working on Computer Vision and AI. Nearly all her tweets are technical stuff related to these topics. Surprisingly interesting. Most women are less able to operate at a high level in technical fields, but I think this chick is truly an exception.

Unfortunately she does have the woke mind virus. Her twitter header includes her pronouns. At least they are her/she.

That exercise with the unwrapped peppermint is an excellent illustration. She shared it to mock it, but I bet a lot of women will realize the truth of it, at least on some level.

Most of the responses seem to side with the teacher.

Strange story I have today. I posted this meme a week ago when arguing with an atheist, and I went to go find it to post it again in a similar topic. It completely disappeared from my computer, I can't find it. I had to look it up on google and then use the wayback machine to access the tumblr page it was originally posted on in 2015 or so. Very strange, and rather annoying. I like having my memes archived together by date.

I couldn't even find the place I originally posted it. All the notifications for that argument are just completely gone. It's weird. Really weird.

It's a beaut! I love the argument about trusting the chemicals that tell you it's nothing but chemicals!

I saved this for myself. I hope it doesn't disappear like it did for you!

Luce is just the Italian word for light and it's actually a fairly common female name in Italy. It's a variant of "Lucía" or "Lucy". Completely different pronunciation too, it's pronounced "loo - chay". Let's not get schizophrenic here.

Lucy is also a nickname for lucifer though and there are some references to satan like daystar or how he transforms himself into an angel of light, a false light. Out of all the common Italian names to choose from.

I have never heard Lucy as a nickname for Lucifer. Perhaps this is true in other languages. I'm mostly used to hearing that being called satan, or the devil. Lucifer is far less common, but when it is used, I've never heard it shortened.

I am a protestant. When I was younger, for some reason I switched churches repeatedly, so I've attended a large number of churches, and spent time around their pastors and other members. I never ran into this, or saw it in writing.

I did a search and found this post on Quora that confirms it, but there were a lot of other links from the search saying the name Lucy has nothing to do with Lucifer. One said it is just the feminized version of Lucius. My guess at this point is that this usage clearly exists, but is not widespread.
