Who's brilliant idea was to put this animated background on? I'm not on an old laptop yet it's slowing entire forum down.

I know you are being sarcastic. Who knows what your motivation is for that as there are certainly better ways to address a mod's attempt at creativity?
However, I do agree with Truck Driver, it's distracting and doesn't really work. Good attempt though as I do like the vintage looking tapestry with embroidered crosses in it... Maybe if it was static (didn't move) and was just at the top and bottom of the page and not in between posts?
Don't look for angles where there are none. As I said, it makes scrolling choppy. This animation takes up 35% of CPU and 15% of GPU. As soon as it stops all load goes to idle.

I could go with it, if it was static. And only on the sides - not between posts (nitpicking much).
And if/when it's static make sure that the crosses that go left to right are centered in the middle of the bar so that the crosses are featured and prominent... Like this (except instead of 2 crosses put 3 for the Trinity):
When it's moving sometimes you can't see any crosses in the image and it looks like nondescript wallpaper in a 19th Century Edwardian tea room.
We may be just not used to it, but for sure, it shouldn't be moving (at different rates), it's almost seizure inducing like that.
I applaud the mods attempts at improving the board. Having said that I'd prefer the older layout, is it possible to make the new one optional?
Ha! I don't understand why people prefer the dark theme,although rationally I am aware that some do. This background texture clearly was meant as blue on white. and doesn't work at all in dark mode.
Make the new background optional please.
