I am relatively close to a base and sadly it's proximity has become a retirement for many folks...meaning do your job and go the Hell home.
The folks I had respect for served, got the F out and came back to their relative natural communities and served them. Sorry...not sucked off the Welfare teet. And I'm all for someone getting some benefits for that but really nobody can defend the current DV and other money grab cottage industry.

The fact is that your tax payer dollars are going to go towards military spending no matter what you think.
You should want them to be stewarded widely and making the most effective fighting force.
