Weird Things You've Noticed Recently

Anyone else feel really weird after watching those new creepy Meta commercials? Where they show various small towns in America, then try to sell the communities are happy that Meta Data Centers have been built and saved their towns and made everyone happy? The feel like some commercial being aired in a futuristic dystopian Sci-Fi movie. Seems surreal.

The commercials may be weird and creepy. Those probably are a good source of jobs for rural towns.

The exception to that is rural towns tend to be more conservative, Christian, and Republican, and these data centers would be outposts of Meta's radical woke, anti-Christian transhumanist culture, complete with all the worst extremes of "diversity".

Well my thoughts were that the people to work data centers in rural small towns will be a small handful of tech savvy engineers & IT gurus making $200k+, not the thousands of locals previously working at the meat packing slaughterhouse or stocking shelves at the Super Walmart. I just feel it’s a scam “feel good” commercial not based in reality at all. I think most Americas can tell the selling points of the commercial don’t pass the sniff test.

I read a book published in the early 2000s called The American Jobs Scam and it mentioned how, time after time, the corporations who set up shop wherever they do are given tax breaks and leasing options and all sorts of things so the town can woo them into coming to them instead of a town three states over. Then as soon as the all the cushy options expire the corporations close down shop and leave so they can do the same thing again somewhere else. Meanwhile their presence has eaten up a lot of money and used up a lot of utilities that they won't ever end up paying for. I wouldn't doubt these data centers are all subsidized and taxpayer funded, through and through. In a real free market there'd be no demand for these big data centers.

Running the numbers on the really long lived patriarchs in Genesis!

Here are 6 interesting facts from Genesis 5:

+ Adam saw the birth of Noah's father.

+ Seth, Adam's son, lived to see the "taking" of Enoch & died shortly before the birth of Noah.

+ Noah outlived Abraham's grandfather.

+ Shem, Noah's son, outlived Abraham.

+ Shem was still alive when Esau and Jacob were born.

+ Methuselah, the oldest man, died the year of the Flood.

Genealogies can be quite fascinating!

The media is shilling flu season hard this year. A choice quote:

“In the next 48 hours, if you haven’t been vaccinated, get vaccinated. Don’t wait,” said Dr. Michael Osterholm who directs the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. “You know, you may still be able to protect yourself from the last parts of the seasonal epidemic, but you know, it takes us, seven to 10 days to develop some immunity relative to the vaccine, and so you don’t have a lot of time to waste,” he added.

Have you noticed that no one chews gum anymore? I can't even remember the last time this was a normal thing.
I know heaps of people that still chew gum.
I haven’t even really noticed a decline in it.
Sadly I still get tempted by its sweet taste.

What did I do to get a Prof. Jiang all over my youtube feed?
This has happened to me too, I have ascribed this to being suggested related content after viewing content relating to current world events.

I've gone down a strange rabbit hole picking some of his videos at random and I'm not sure what to make of him. On the one hand he seems to present ideas similar to what is being discussed on this forum (e.g. Pax Judaica, boomers destroying the world), on the other he has views on religion in general and Christianity in particular that I imagine many people would describe as heretical or anathema (e.g. that the Jews didn't kill Jesus, that the Romans did and shifted the blame onto the Jews, and created Catholicism to support this...)

It seems he came to sudden prominence after Trump got reelected and he made a video predicting this months prior - The Professor Who Predicted Trump’s Return and War With Iran

My feeling is that he's a very well-read man who is drawing connections between so many things that you'd have to be a genius or slightly crazy to fully understand or believe him.

Basically the Asian version of this meme:

I am deliberately not going to include a hyperlink to his channel because I am actually unsure if it's a good thing for more people to get too involved in his content, though if you believe you're at the right stage in your life to make up your own mind you'll easily find it, if his content hasn't been showing up in your feed already.

Some of this is from Matt Walsh/Tucker interview I watched yesterday, but they raised a point that if you visit Walmart (anywhere), an Interstate rest area, a DMV, the proportion of whites to other ethnicities is lower % than the population breakdown. These are typically places that a majority of Americans have to visit on the regular.

One odd thing I noticed last week….I went into a SuperTarget for the first time in a small city a few hundred miles from where I live. I noticed the demographic there trended whiter and more female (younger), as well than Walmart shoppers in general. I guess Target feels classier or something.

It’s fun to go out into the world and observe and report “weird things you notice”. Can I get paid to do this when AI takes my job?

Things must be different in Australia, because here in the US you don't see this habit anymore. I remember back in the 80s, gum chewing was huge. They even had brands that made that shredded bubble gum so it looked like chewing tobacco. If you were in a scenario where you were waiting with a friend for something, you or the friend would offer the other a stick of gum to pass the time; kind of like a sharing ritual.

As kids, we all had our favorite brands and would try to blow the biggest bubble we could when we had bubble gum on hand. A lot of people also switched to gum when they were trying to quit smoking. But I guess that since smoking isn't popular anymore, there isn't a need for those people to switch to gum, and that would explain part of the decline in gum sales.

I used to chew various minty gum for fresh breath mostly (up until maybe 10-15 years ago) but since I’ve switched to breath mints only and keep mints in my car and at my desk at work. Good question…why did I quit chewing gum? I really don’t have an answer at all to that, I just don’t. When I chewed gum at work in the past, I always felt it made me more mentally sharp, alert, energetic etc.
