The Movie Thread

Ed, you should watch The Banshees of Insherin if you haven't already but I think you might have already like.... you seem quite up to date.
But if not, it's of course well worth it if you haven't been bothered so.

I love In Bruges dearly, but Banshees takes it so much deeper I guess it's just brilliant writing, characters and all that. My favourite of Martin's films ya know.

Really good movie which unfortunately for me, hits close to home. If you can appreciate a good character study, this film is for you.

Her pommy accent never bothered me, but then I only ever saw her in A Quiet Place.

Haha. The one movie where the premise is you can't talk.

She was good in The Adjustment Bureau. The movie is a little cheesy, but a good idea for a film and I liked the idea of self sacrifice for the other for love.

Fair enough. Personally I’d settle for any one of Rod Stewart’s ex’s.

Second this, but then i'm bias.... Rachel Hunter is a Kiwi. ;)

I watched this last night, it was pretty good. However, the best film I have seen with Brendan Gleeson is Calvary, that one hit hard

I have no idea what prompted the thought but last night I remembered that movie Soldier with Kurt Russell. I’d seen it as a kid and recalled it was corny but I still liked it. Anyway, I looked it up and apparently it was written by one of the dudes who co-wrote the original Blade Runner film and has a bunch of connections to it. I kind of want to watch it again.

Just saw this movie's trailer the other night while watching 'older' movie trailers, looking for something other than the modern slop. Will check it out sometime!

Pretty much anything is worth watching with Kurt Russell in it

I remember Overlord, lol, he had a lot of "insight" or insider information into the destruction of the Star Wars Saga by Disney, and also the nonsense regarding the end of the Game of Thrones series ... haha

Recently watched Blackberry. Good business drama, definitely worth a watch, but wow, the movie completely belongs to Glenn Howertown. I didn't even know who he was but it's one of the most entertaining performances I've seen in a while.

Love this film. And totally agree about Howerton. What a performance!

I posted before telling people to watch this movie but no one ever replied to my post afterwards so I'm guessing no one bothered to watch it. This film is a solid 7.5/10 that is bolstered by the magnificent performance of Glenn Howerton.

Yeah the film itself is very good. Falls short of being great by no fault of its own. The final act feels anticlimactic but that's how it happened, it was great, the touchscreen was introduced, and then it was over. I also didn't feel any connection to anyone outside of Howerton. Again, no fault of the other actors, they were across the board solid. But it's one of those performances that are so dynamic it makes you not care about much else. It's tricky for a director when you know you are going to have one sensational performance but it could be TOO good and wind up burying other things. Either way, glad we got two recommendations for this movie now lol, it's a good one. Love the music and the overall vibe, and it is at times genuinely inspiring.

I don't think the issue was Howerton's performance overshadowing the others. It was more of a thing where the director keeps you at a distance from the characters, even Howerton himself to a point. He doesn't allow you to get to know any of them well enough to really care deeply about them. The movie instead focuses on the events that took place around the device. The device is really the star of the film.
